So, I was just curious as what finish is better on a pistol, SS, Blued, other? I have heard of leather holsters leaving residue on SS and that blued wears fast. What do y'all think?

ive always went with blued , but for reason i have an itch to sand off the paint on the slide action of my blued Taurus 917C (seen guns with that look and like it) but i dont know if it will invite more ways to tarnish or rust ???

It really doesn't matter.

I prefer stainless because it resists corrosion and holster wear. Still, I love blued finishes. It does wear after awhile, but some people say it gives a gun "character." Clearly, however, it reduces resale value.

My favorite guns are the S&W 659 9mm and the stainless Ruger Security- or Speed-Six revolver. For highway, travel or self protection in the great outdoors, I'll go for the revolver anytime. Around town, I'd go with a good auto.

I prefer black. I normally carry a Glock 26, S&W 442 or Ultra Kimber, all black.
If I am wearing light color clothing I'll carry the 642.

It really doesn't matter to me. I live in a dry climate so rust or corrosion isn't an issue, and if the thought of your carry gun showing wear marks worries you, you're carrying the wrong gun in my opinion.

If even the blued surface wears, the slide on most guns are stainless so they don't easily rust. Anyways, use Eezox or CorrosionX and it'll never be a problem.

other

I also voted other as I went for the DLC finish on My CCW. Stainless slide, but with that dark finish so it made it easier for Me to conceal....WVleo

I carry a polymer gun with a hard chrome slide.

If you're really concerned about wear, stainless is probably a good choice. It is heavier, though.

I don't think it really matters. No biggie if your carry gun has some holster wear.

Other -- I would prefer something like dura-coat or Gun Kote. A baked epoxy over parkerizing. Very tough, easy to clean, and rust proof. It wears, yeah, but so does your cell phone.

Since I live in an area with low humidity I choose blued, but then i carried blue even when I lived in the humid south.

A little care and wipe down with a oiled cloth and anything will work for you. Just takes a little care and time.

For me it takes alot of care and time.

Some guns rust faster than others. I've found that cheaper metals are more rust resistant than some higher grade steels that are insisted on better pistols. Cleaning the mini dots off of stainless is a pain. (epecially when the gun was stored soaked in oil!)

I voted other. I like plain steel for 1911's and stainless for everything else. Both refinished black with Melonite or ION bond. Don't forget Tenifer.

Prefer SS, but have carried aluminum, blued, and stainless. I prefer SS due to the ease of maintenance, personally--that, and slightly less concerns about sweat, etc.
