CCW handgun queation

hi guys and gals. i was wondering wha my best option for my CCW gun would be...

i was wondering how hard it would be for me to conceal a fullsized handgun? im 5'10", 220 lbs, and like baggy clothing.

Iv got an uncle mikes shoulder rig (the one that puts the holster under our left arm-pit), but even with it adjusted as best i can, i still cant quite make a 1911 size gun disapear. the handle prints a little under a jacket, and its obvious that i have SOMETHING under my arm-pit.

Does anyone have some tips to help me stop printing?

Also, how do you think a Berreta 92 would fare? what about a 4" S&W .357?

My last question is about the Taurus 92 clones. are they asreliable as the real deal? and are parts and mags compatable with the real thing?

I think your best option is still the full size 1911..

My suggestion would be to try a IWB holster (inside the waistband). Give the Milt Sparks VM II's a shot, they're the most popular holsters with a great reputation.

Both the 686 and 92FS are thicker than the 1911. Thats the main advantage of the 1911, its slim design.

I'm 5'11", 230, my usual set-up is a full-size Colt Gold Cup in a Galco "Fletch" OWB holster under a light PolarFleece windbreaker or open, untucked buttondown of a medium/heavyweight fabric. Works quite well.

Dark colors and busy patterns are your friend.

Try carrying the gun at 4.00 IWB or OWB but with ALOT of cant. The grip will tuck itself into your body..............and What they said.

The Taurus 92 is a fine pistol. Some people like them better than the Beretta because of the safety. Some parts do interchange as they were built on Beretta machinery, but not all.

I've been carrying concealed for a decade now and have one bit of advice. Carry the smallest, lightest handgun you can shoot well. Minimum caliber is 9mm/.38 Spl.

Very few persons end up carrying a full sized pistol or revolver on a regular basis - it is just a real PAIN in the a*s! You will find yourself thinking of all types of logical excuses to leave it home or in the car. A small, light handgun will be carried more often and thus will be there when it is needed!

My regular carry gun is a Kahr PM9 loaded with Cor-Bon 115 gr.+P DPX ammo. I can carry it anywhere, anytime under any type of clothing. It just plain makes sense!

I carry a fullsize pistol only a couple of times a year...Most of my carry needs are met by compact pistols...

I gotta get me one of those CZ Sp-01's when they get here...Eric, ya gonna make me a OWB for it?? hmm??

In my experiance, the Beretta is smoother. Smoother slide/frame fit, smoother trigger, etc. The PT92 is still a fine handgun, and the one I prefer due to the safety location.

I've got a pistol here in an Uncle Mike's holster.
It's great for storage, but that's all I'd be willing to use one for.

Thanks for the tips on the holsters. does anyone have an oppinion as to what nylon holster is best? im willing to use any type and style of holster as long as its not a pain to ware.

One last thing about the taurus...Theyd take the berreta (sp?) mags right? As long as its reliable and i can use the 13 round 92 mags, then it doesnt make a HUGE deal if the slide is a bit more stiff...as long as it works well. This would mainly be a self defence gun.

Iv got a S&W .38 snubby that i could carry, and that i enjoy shooting, but iv got a few questions aout it also...

1) Whats the MAximim effective range on this thing? its one of the 5 shot Dee-Lees with a 1" barrel...and to be honest, i cant hit the side of a barn with the thing at 25 feet. By this i mean im having trouble keeping all shots on center mass. Accurate placement seems out of the question at this range... is this just bad shooting on my part, or is this the limit of the gun?

2) What is the best ammo for a .38 spl? im assuming 158 grain Jacketed Soft Point? whats the best brand? i practice using Fiocchi (sp again?) 158 grain Full metal Jacket, and the muzzle flash is quite anoying... the recoil is also slightly worse than a full sized .45; at least thats what it feals like to me.

So what is the best way to use a .38 snubby, and whats the most apporopirate ammo?

Max effect?? ahh that would the distance that you can consistantly hit your target in the chest and head..

CCI just came out with a "snubby" load...IIRC it is a 124grn Gold Dot +p

Snub revolvers are the ultimate test of your shooting skills. A snub is just as accurate as it's longer barrel siblings, but it's short sight radius and abreviated grip makes them harder to use accurately. Just continue to practice while concentrating on the basic shooting skills and you will get better.
For developing your skills with the little snub try using the 148gr. Wadcutters as they are lowest recoiling loads. SD/HD loads vary from person to person. Some prefer the lighter loads (110 to 125 grainers) in +P, while others like the heavier loads (145 to 158 grainers) in standard pressure or +P. Find what's comfortable and easier to use for you and what shoots to POA in your revolver.

Mr. Trooper, I use a Bersa Thunder 45 for car/carry. Why? It works for me. The Bersa Thunder 45 is inexpensive, compact, lightweight, accurate, and relaible. What more can I ask for? I also go along with the lighter and smaller philosophy. If you are going to carry a large pistol look at Ken L. Null's UNS holster, Alessi CQC-I, or a Milt Sparks Summer Special, these all work well for me when I choose to carry a large and heavy weapon. Regards, Richard
