Not in the minds of the general public. Think about it- Susie Soccer mom, who would absolutely FREAK if she saw a guy in jeans and a t-shirt standing behind her at McDonald's with a pistol on his hip, thinks nothing of the friendly armed guard at the bank.

If your posts #18 & #19 were intended as a response to my detailed post #15, you missed my main point. I think my links clearly show that to use "CCW" as the correct understanding of the shooter's legal status is very misleading and is never used in your linked article. I contend that a strict reading of the Boston PD .pdf document shows the shooter was outside the regulations when he discharged his firearm. Please use similar links and documents to show me the error in my thinking.

However, if you wish to contend that political connections and internal Boston PD politics may result in a favorable finding for this shooter, then I believe I can concede that point.

Just the fact that this story has been reported in the Boston Globe in a positive manner for the last few days is a great boost for those of us in Massachusetts who spend our days and nights arguing that private citizens with legally-owned and lawfully-carried handguns can and do save lives.

Most gun stories that people read in the Globe are about drug and gang-related shootings.

My own daughter is fiercely anti-gun because of the trauma she sees as an ER doctor in Boston. Even she told me that this incident has helped her see the distinction between lawful and unlawful guns and their use.

And no, you don't have to be a Kennedy to get a license to carry in Mass. In my town if you keep your nose clean you'll get one when you're 21 as sure as a drivers license at 16 and the vote at 18.

PershingRifles-
No, that wasn't in response to your post. There is no reason to be so critical and accuse me of misleading people on here. He has a concealed carry permit. He isn't a cop. He wasn't on duty to guard the hospital. There are so many strange restrictions on permits in MA (believe me, I lived there most of my life and went through that process) that I don't know if that effected the legality of him carrying at that particular point in time.

I'll bet nothing happens to the shooter since the Boston Police Department called his actions "heroic". Whether or not that has anything to do with him wanting to be a cop there, who knows. It's not my job to decide if the shooting was legal or not. That's for the actual cops and courts to decide. Anyways, this is getting old.
