I love to shoot some pool once in awhile. But since I got my CCW I haven't been. I want to go later tonight but have some questions. Here is the Revised Statute as out state law puts it:

" Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises."

Do I take this as ANYWHERE that sells alcohol is off-limits to carry? That would rule out ANY restaurant too. The place I generally frequent isn't a bad place, but there have been a few altercations there, when I wasn't there. Do you carry into places such as this in deep cover, i.e. IWB with jacket and hope nothing happens where you would need it?

What are your thoughts?

Assuming you can drink at the pool tables, I'd say no.

But...what are the penalties for violation? And how good is your concealment :D. More seriously, esp. when bent over to shoot? IWB will stick out like a sore thumb.

Another point...if what you're doing is a gray area or at least slightly illegal, ponder whether or not you're likely to really need it. In other words, if it's a family type place, nobody is going to say afterwards (if there was trouble) that you were looking for trouble.

If on the other hand the place is a dive with old blood and teeth on the floor from previous brawling, and you go in there and end up drawing down on some drunk nutcase about to bash your head in with a beer bottle, then you really shouldn't have been in there in the first place and could be described later as "looking for trouble with a gun" and a what would otherwise be a minor violation (packing in a beer place) and might be ignored elsewhere will NOT be ignored under those circumstances.

Put it another way, from the cop's point of view: if a particular place is a chronic "oh God, I gotta go break up another fight there, fourth one this week" kinda place, and then the cop gets there and finds somebody's packing illegally, he's gonna come down on you like the wrath of God and...well, not without some justification, you know?

It's not that bad of a place. But there are some idiots that show up every now and then. IWB on me sticks out less than OWB, especially since I will wearing a windbreaker too. Violation penalties? Suspension of permit from what I can make out of the statutes.

You should change your profile to reflect what state you are in. Its hard to judge without this information. The way I read this is the bar area. If you go into an Applebees and dont sit at the bar then your alright. As long as you ask for a table its alright *IMHO* even if it is near the bar. You made a reasonable effort.

We're not talking about a restaurant. It is a pool hall. Open floor with a bar in the back. Drinking is allowed at the tables. Kinda gray to me.

Gatman, he said Louisiana.

Hmmm.

Well it's a bit gray, but fading to black legally speaking :).

Then again the penalty isn't a total ball-buster and nobody is going to know unless you really need it...
