I'm also an Ohio resident and in Ohio and probably a lot of other states. You can carry a firearm but there is a lot of places you can't carry it to like a tavern or any store that posts,'No Firearms'. It has always been legal in Ohio to carry open but the police can get you for insighting a riot if someone take offense at you showing your firearm and that's not too far fetched considering the soccer moms out there.
My answer is to carry a five shot 22 Mag stainless steel NAA revolver. Safe cheap and small enough to carry in the front pocket of any pants or shorts and no one needs to know that you're carrying if you are in a non-carrying place. Then if you do need it, the old adage applies, I'd sooner be judged by twelve than carried by six.
