I'm traveling from MI,where I have my CCW license, to FL for a few days and was wondering if I could legally CCW in FL. I realize that it is likely not legal to CCW in the states we'll be driving through (OH, KY, TN, GA) but as I'll be in a major FL city for a few days, the CCW could be handy. Thanks for any advice. :)

You can carry in KY, FL, and TN. KY and TN have universal recognition of all out of state permits. Florida has reciprocity with a MI CPL if you are in fact a MI resident.

Georgia also recognizes MI licenses under reciprocity agreement. See here:

OH will also recognize your MI under a reciprocity agreement. However, please read the laws on car carry, it is messed up. Myself I would try to go through Indiana instead. They have universal reciprocity like KY and TN.

Check packing.org if you want official links.

Yeah, you definitely can. A guy in FL was in a gun shop a few weeks ago and asked that question so I remember everyone telling him the laws for MI-FL reciprocity. We can definitely carry in MI and you can definitely carry in FL assuming each of us are residents in our respective CCL states.

Go to packing.org to be sure.

Yeah, and if you stop to eat in Indiana, you can even take your gun into a bar!!! Just don't get drunk. ;)

If you must go through Ohio, lock it unloaded in the trunk. Don't become a test case. :cuss:

Eat and fill up the tank in Mich. Eat and fill up the tank in Covington, Ky. Don't spend a penny in Ohio.

Many thanks for the advice and the link to packing.org - I'll check out the site. Thanks also on the advice not to spend $ in Ohio, as if anyone from Michigan would miss the chance to irritate folks in OH!

Let me guess, you work for the Florida Dept. of Agriculture, right?
Nope!

I have family and friends East of the Mississippi. I visit them quite often and the Florida CCW permit covers way more states than my Arizona permit. Its well worth the funds if available.

As for my travel plans. I plot a course thru states that either honor my Florida or Arizona CCW permits and avoid the ones that dont.

It works out to about 20 bucks a year. I pay more for that each month for internet access or gas.
If they let me pay for it on a yearly basis, it wouldn't be so bad. But I already have to pay $105.00 every 5 years for my Michigan CPL, and I have many other expenses too, such as a wife and two young sons.

I'm afraid I'd have a hard time justifying another $117.00 for a permit I'm not likely to need or use.
