Finally found one to fit and conceal my 1911 45ACP mags.

Made by WireX, purchased from a Verizon store, "Extra Large Pouch for PDA"

I see a problem getting them out of the pouch in a timely manner. It seems like they're probably pretty snug in there, and you don't really have anything to grab quickly.

And, you probably paid as much for it as a proper mag pouch would have cost, even a cheap one. In my experience the cell phone holsters don't last very long, they're cheaply built.

Is there a reason you don't like typical mag pouches? I find they're comfortable, they don't take up much real estate, and they're quick to grab.

just concealment

I often visit places where I prefer no one give second thought to my appearance.

And fishing one out is about as fast as getting it out of my pocket where I've been carrying it. There are always tradeoff's and compromises.

My SmartCarry holster is another one.

Well, if it works for you, that's good. I know that I'd personally have an impossible time gripping one out of something like that.

Just my .02, though, I'd try and find a high riding belt pouch and give it a try. You'd be surprised how easy it is to conceal.

Some of the kydex ones don't even ride below the belt at all!

Since the sides are elastic it's very easy to grip even a single mag.

Do you have a link to a mag pouch that carries horizontally and doesn't show either end of the mag while looking like a phone pouch?

I'm always looking for a better system.

None that doesn't show either side, no. But there are plenty of horizontal mag pouches, or canted pouches.

I didn't realize the sides are elastic, though, I assume making it a lot easier to get into.
