I guess my rememberer isn't too sporty then.:D
You’re mostly remembering fine Hawg. G&U did build the first Navies from an original provided by Val Forgett. He had some difficulty getting it back as I recall. Of course communication was more difficult then than it is now particularly in Italy and the main correspondence was via mail, with letters in this case passed from one individual to another. I’ll dig out the information I have related to this situation…

My father saved every receipt for firearms he purchased. I just found the one for a 1860 New Army revolver he purchased in 1962.

$81.00
$1.98 Tax
$15.00 trade-in, Star 9mm Auto
$67.98 total.

Seems cheap now but was a lot back in 1962.

I last remember shooting this gun in 1965 and will shoot it again this summer; 56 years later.

Good morning,
Is it possible to get the serialnumber of yours too?
Also do I need a copy of the first receipt, if you have. I show not the name on it at my homepage!
If there is a notch at the butt of the grip, it is a 1.Variation/2.Subvariation, without notch it is a 1/3.
Thanks for helping

Could someone ask at GB the seller of the Centaure/CENTENNIAL Cavalry revolver, if the number of the shoulder stock is matching with the revolver frame?
I am not able to ask by my self, because the rules are very difficult in relation Germany to weapon auctions and the USA! Law is different!
Thanks

If that was built on specs gotten from the gun Val sent then it was a Griswold & Gunnison he sent.
No, it was an 1851 Navy. Here’s one of the first 500 they ever built. Uberti has long built guns to original spec. Although that’s an interesting concept when you’re discussing any firearm from that era. There are many variations even within the same year of manufacture…

G. U. is Gregorelli & Uberti. They were in business from about 1959-1962 when Aldo Uberti split off and formed his own company.
Both the Navy Arms 1851 Navy and the "G&G" did not have separate serial number ranges and were numbered sequentially as they came off the assembly line.
Many of the early G.U. guns did not have Italian proof marks nor date codes.

The Navy Arms I pictured post #29 is from the 1st year of production

Interesting that the two revolvers were manufactured within 200 units of each other…

Garts! Lot’s of memories there! We always stopped by when we were down on the front range…

That set just sold this morning for $975. I believe it was numbers matching.
