Century Building AR15s?

Speaking to old buddy on the phone last night as he is in Montana I had to rib him about cooking steaks on the grill last night while wearing shorts here in Central FLorida. Oddly his night time temperature was only 2 degrees lower than I had the night before (27F verses 25F) but I way bet him on day temps.

Any how as pay back he began extolling the virtues of his Century .45ACP Enfield mark 4 carbine and going on about its look and finish which looks good in his email posts. He then asked me if I was aware Century was building up ARs from USGI M16A2 parts with a new reciever and fire controls (I thought the bolt carrier had to be non M-16 or modified these days too) He said he thought they were, are, or will be offered at a Dealer price around $500.

ANyone know about this?

Anyone seen handled or shot one of these?

Please no "I bought a Fruframastainian AK rebuild from them that had the sights on side ways" posts, I just want to know about the possible ARs and what reciever they might be using.

I have read about Century using receivers made by CMT - they also make Stag and Rock River lowers.

I was under the impression that most everything Century has built has been a crapshoot at best. If this is true, do you really want to take the chance on a weapon with tolerances as tight as an AR?

I'm almost certain I've seen AR's at JG Sales website marked "Century".

M16 bolt carriers are perfectly fine in an AR. If you get a Colt it's got an M16 carrier in it. A couple other manufacturers use them as well.

Colt in the past has used an AR15 non M16 bolt carrier. One of the issues for folks doing conversions before 84 was whether to buy a surplus bolt carrier or to use a little screw in piece that reduced the length of the cutt out in the bottom of the AR15 bolt carrier. Some have expressed concerns that an M16 bolt carrier constitutes a full auto part. As the bolt carrier is a vital part in the full auto operation of a select fire M16 (it trips the auto disconect) making the opening in the bottom of the carrier longer prevents its use in an illegal Machine Gun.

Tactical Ninja,

I did ask that the general "Century bad, ungawah!" comment be held to one's self, but.....

My understandingis these are made up of surplused A2 parts and ONLY the ower and control group are non GI (someone's GI) parts.

In short no more likely to be monkeyed up than the gillians of guys here that advise "making your own" AR15. and just as fixable if they are.

Looking for info on the guns not speculations on Century.
