It appears that century has a rather large numbers of Romanian SKS's in stock at this time, they are C&R too! I am going to order one on monday and will report. It says they are well used thoug. At $299, only like $50 the Yugos which are everywhere, it seems like an OK deal for someone looking at their second or third SKS (like me).

Please let us know when yours arrives- pictures!

Where'd you see the part about being "well used?"

I am still befuddled about the supply issue with certain surplus rifles and accessories from the former Warsaw Pact. Where did these rifles come from? Did this batch suddenly just get sold off by some officer in Romania to Century?

For example, why can't some business just order up 10,000 Soviet AK bayonets and sell them here? So maybe the price wouldn't be $175?

Well, its nice to see some Romanians are actually coming in. I'd be interested in hearing about the condition. :scrutiny:

Well I think you answered yourself. For as much as we love our wholesalers (J&G, Century, AIM, etc...) they are always first and foremost a business. They are stuck in a problem of getting enough supply in to please the customer, but not too much to cause a flood of goods, and a corresponding decrease in value. Its simple supply and demand, when supply is low, price is high. Flood the market with millions of Russian bayonets, and you can't sell them for $175 a piece.

As a perfect example of this, look at Romanian bayonets for the AK, you can get them still at 4 for $25. Thats $6 and change each, because they have flooded the market with them.

Has anyone seen or bought one of the all chrome "Chinese Honor Guard" SKS's advertised in shotgun news? They're like 500 bucks but sure are cool lookin.

CAI Romanian SKS - VG is here.

My CAI Romanian SKS in "very good" condition arrived today. I'm "very pleased." Not perfect, but I agree, very good condition. Mirror bore looks almost unfired. Bluing excellent. 1960 stamped on the receiver, which I'm guessing the year of origin. All numbers match with real numbers, not electro-pencil (aside from the gas tube and piston electro-pencil, which matches the gun s/n).

I did a quick clean-up and function-tested this evening- everything works fine. I was little concerned that the piston drags slightly in the gas tube, but functionality was not affected. May just need put to use.

I like the feel of my Romanian SKS better than that of my Yugoslavian variant. The Yugo does shoot well, however. I will have to clean the Romanian up a little more than try out some targets.

If anyone's interested, I'll try to get some pictures taken tomorrow.

I ordered a Yugo SKS from SOG yesterday. They had none in excellent condition and only 5 in good condition.

Apparently the supply is becoming scarce.

Sorry it took so long for the photos

Happy Father's Day dads!

Very nice SKS. You clean off that cosmo, sand the stock and oil it up, it will look pretty darn good. I love the Beech wood. Congrats, I'm trying to locate a decently priced Tula for my second SKS.

Tell me if my info was wrong, but I read this in the interview of an ammo distributor and heard this from a retired Navy Officer ( who lives nearby in Millington, TN: the NAS is long-gone, but they have the Navy's NMPC) in a gun store back in January.

Romania's large number of exported AK-47s either needs to be, or was already reduced to a large extent in order for Romania to be allowed to enter NATO.
Maybe this is bogus info. I have no idea.

Have fun with those AKs.

Romania has been a member of NATO since 2004, so I would say that is doubtful.

Any reason to get a Romanian over a Yugo? Does one have any accessories or features that they other one doesn't?

the reason why romy AKs are going up in price or becoming a bit scarce is because:

-election panic
-Cugir shutting down its AK baby-makers
-companies using the two aforementioned as a scare tactic to justify price hikes

also, nice SKS. Very nice, actually...

Crap-
Thanks for pointing out the cleaning rod for me!

I may have taken it out when I cleaned the rifle (prior to firing the first time). Maybe not... Guess I'll have to buy one!

Comparing the Romanian to the Yugo M59, the Romanian has a chrome lined barrel. Otherwise they are pretty much the same.

Comparing the Romanian to the Yugo M59/66, the Yugo has a grenade launcher muzzle device, associated flip-up sight assembly, and a gas valve to prevent semi-auto fire when shooting grenades. It is overall longer, but has a shorter sight radius. The Yugo is heavier and has a beafier stock, with a rubber buttpad. Oh, and it doesn't have a chrome lined barrel.
