What is the barrel length of the Yugo SKS's? I was thinking they were 20 inches but on Southern Ohio Guns it has them listed as 16. I emailed them and got the response:

The barrel is 17 1/2 " with the grenade launcher, without it is 16" in length.

This was for the rifle #SKS-M5966GN

At the local gun store I had them measure the barrel and it was 20 inches long not including the granade launcher. Did these rifles come in two barrel lenghts? I would rather get the 20 inch one. The local gun shop only has one Yugo sks, and he wants $150 for it used. I'm applying for my C&R and my first rifle I'm ordering is a Yugo SKS.

They must have figured that out over a liquid lunch break. Perhaps they were measuring a pair of AKs with and without a muzzle brake.

All SKS came with at least 20" barrels except a few commercial Chinese "Paratrooper" and "Sporter" varients.

Measuring my 56/66s, it's 24 1/8" with the grenade launcher and 22 1/8" without. That's measuring by dropping a cleaning rod down on a closed bolt and measuring the rod from the end to the point that was at the muzzle, so that would include the chamber.

Thanks for all the info folks. Here is the website of the sks

Attached is a pic of the rifle too.

That's right... not many excellent condition Yugo SKS Model 5966 remain ... and S.O.G. has them! Features a 16" barrel; 39.5" overall and accessories that include sling and ammo pouch.
I wonder if they were measuring the exposed barrel from the muzzle to the end of the handguard?

Just think, the guy who did the measuring is probably the same guy who does the $10 handpick. :uhoh:
