I finally got my Yugoslavian Under folder from Classic Arms today. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. Overall the rifle seems to be pretty nicely done. Little mag wobble, and folder wobble. It came with two Yugoslavian hold open mags. One of them is in very nice condition, the other looks like it’s was picked up off of a battlefield. Rusty patches, full of some kind of grit and the button at the bottom of the mag (for disassembly) isn’t protruding through the hole. Also the gun did not come with any accessories, as I’d expected. I had asked the salesperson about accessories, and they responded that the gun would come with some. Fortunately a friend gave me a East German AK bayo, so I at least have that. I was also surprised to see that the cleaning rod was missing. I will call Classic Arms tomorrow to see what they have to say. I took the rifle knowing all of the above because I like it overall.

Do any of you who have purchased the Yugo know if it is common for them to come without a cleaning rod?

UPDATE:

I had a little time this evening (as it was getting dark) to rush the new Yugo out to the range. I proceeded to fire 110 rounds of Wolf hp from two Romanian 30 round mags, one Hungarian 20 round mag, and one of the Yugoslavian 30 round (hold open mag). The gun functioned flawlessly as I rapid fired most of these rounds. Usually I would take the time to clean the rifle, but because I was hurried, I didn't do anything other than check the barrel to make sure it was clear. I couldn't be happier with the performance of this rifle. The trigger was "SWEET" compared to the Romanian SAR-1. Actually it was pretty nice compared to most any rifle I've tried. Much better than my SKS carbines. The rifle was accurate and very fast shooting. Handled extremely well even with the metal folding stock. I think I have a new favorite self-defense carbine. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quality AK.

I forgot to mention that recoil was barely noticeable. I guess this is due to the heavier weight of the Yugo (compared to my Romanian), and the brake. 110 rounds, and my shoulder doesn’t feel a thing. Easy to keep on target also.

RK,

I noticed on the Yugo that if you pull the trigger slowly that it seems to click just before it goes off. Once it gets to the "click" there is no more play in the trigger, and it will go off if pulled any further. Does the Yugo have a two stage trigger?

The stock was not nearly as bad as I expected, but then I'm used to shooting a Kel-Tec Sub 2000;) . Really, it did handle quite well, and I had no problem getting a weld. Some people wrap it in cordage for comfort, but the metal didn't bother me. The trigger and lack of recoil is what really impressed me. Very smooth, and fast reset on the trigger, with very little felt recoil or muzzle rise. Only 110 rounds but the rifle was also reliable.

Impressive looking guns.. How much did you have to pay? If you don't mind me asking...

Me, my son and a cousin all ordered Century built M70AB2
Yugo underfolders back in Feb and have been shooting
ours for months, with no complaints. Mine will shoot anything
from new Wolf to Sako 1973 with no bobbles.

The receivers were DCI receivers, 1.5 or 1.6mm, RPK, as
opposed to the 1mm sheet metal on most AKs. The
forearm is larger also, and the barrel appears thicker.
Our guns came with: mag pouch, one Yugo holdopen
mag, one conventional mag, oil bottle, cleaning kit,
bayonet with wirecutter sheath, orange plastic safety
flag for range use, and a manual for the CAI WASR.
At least one was transshipped thru SOG from Century.

My son gave me an East German mag that fits with no
play (the other mags have wobble more or less).

All in all we am pleased with our Century Yugo underfolders.
Price was 469.00 by the way.

I picked up one of those Century guns for just over five and tax a while back (Yeah, I got poked a bit but I wanted it RIGHT NOW!) and I've had nothing but good experiences with mine. Reliable, low recoil, and just plain fun. Played golf on the range with it (shooting at golf balls), Reciever is nice and heavy and a buddy of mine that has been to Iraq three times says it is much nicer fit and finish then the AK's he'd seen over there. Better then the real thing! Only thing I can complain about is how dag-gone hot the thing gets in the summer sun. Thought I was gonna burn my cheek off. I think I'll scrounge up some foam tubing and see if I can make the stock a but more comfortable. Cheek weld is not great but would improve if I wrapped the left stock "arm" with some foam. . .

"wrapp the left stock "arm" with some foam."

I used parachute cord to wrap the wire stock
of a Bronco .22 "bicycle rifle" but the issue there
was the stock was COLD in the winter. Round
synthetic bootlace cord or even leather bootlace
makes a good wrap for metal stocks also.

Watch the thickness of the wrap, if you want to
be able to fold the stock.

Nice to hear from so many happy Yugo purchasers. I like the idea of wrapping the stock. I paid under $400 for the SAR-1 in early 2004. Can't really remember the exact dollar amount though, I'm thinking $350ish. I remember thinking it was a little high for a SAR-1 at the time. I found the Yugo for $439 at Classic Arms (on the net). A local dealer has ordered them in and charges $519 to $529 for them, and I've seen them listed in the $500 to $600 range on other sites. I think if you are going to get one, the $439 Classic Arms deal is probably the best you are going to find and not likely to be around for a long time. My SAR-1 is a good example. Considered the bottom of the barrel at one time, now they are hard to find for less than $350-$400 on the used market. The SAR has always been reliable, and I like it, but the Yugo is much superior in my opinion. I base this opinion primarily on the trigger and lack of recoil. I also like the post ban features whereas my SAR-1 is lacking these.

I called both Classic Arms and Century (importer) today, and both stated that the last two batches of Yugo underfolders have come in without accessories. Classic is sending me a cleaning rod, and a new magazine though. I'm pretty satisfied with them. Also, I did some work on the one magazine, and it seems to be in pretty good working order now. I also started to lightly sand the rusty patches. They rust is coming off pretty well, but there won't be much blueing left when I'm finished.

I got mine for $518 (just got the credit card bill) and it does have the two stage trigger.

I got one of these back in January and I couldn't be happier. Comming from my SAR-1s, it is a nice step up. It is a lot heavier than the SAR-1 but it is better made. They come with Yugo mags that hold the bolt open on the last shot. They should come with two mags IIRC. Mine came with all the extras but I have heard they have been shipping them without bayonets lately. Not sure why but that is the story.

p.s., if you want some extra Yugo bolt hold open mags, I have some that I can let you have for a good price. I bought a bunch. They are original mags for this rifle so it is neat to have them if you have a Yugo rifle.

I picked one up at a local shop a couple of months ago. Price was 479.00. At first I was kind of leary about them, being a Century product and all. However, the workmanship seems quite good. A complete accessory pack was included, minus the cleaning rod. Also, the two included mags are standard Eastern European type. Haven't fired it yet, but am looking forward to trying it out on my club's plinking range. Has anyone seen the fixed stock model in person yet? Seems like they are a much lower production item.

I just mine from AIM today and no accessories. I called AIM and was told they being imported now with no accessories. I had one on backorder with since may.

I have taken to soaking rusty patches in wd40 for 24 hrs,
then shaving the rust off with a single edge razor blade
(the old fashioned kind). I can usually remove the rust
and save a lot of the original finish.

I got mine while I was honeymooning down in Charleston, SC (cant remember the store's name but it is a classIII dealer)back in July for right at $500. I wasnt sure about the underfolder part at first but I never had one so I said what the heck it's my honeymoon toooo....and with approval from my new bride aswell. I guess my only complaint is that the bolt assembly isnt as polished as my dad's mak 90 and the gas rod has some pitting so I question the metal but as others have said the reciever is built like a tank, the barrel is not chrome lined as I would like but it is an AK so.....it's always function over fashion. The odd thing is I got a WASR manual saying it was made in Romania and a CETME bayonet, the guy traded out the CETME for a real AK series Bayonet without the scabbard.....go figure ....added 2 yugo mags aswell as the pouch for the road

I bought the SGN this week and found the article to be misleading on few topics as the article stated that the barrels are chrome lined, and that the metal thickness is 1.0mm.......I have a dark barrel and my rec'vr is 1.5mm...but I have heard that Century has a habit of mixing and matching things to get orders out.

Do any of your nightsights still glow????? mine are dead....I have heard of a few people geting them still glowing.

My family has at least 3 Yugos. None of our nightsights glow.
I cleaned the dots on mine and filled the holes with
white enamel paint, not glow-in-the-dark but they do
stand out in low light.

The manual with mine was a generic CIA AK manual,
not specific for the M70AB2. Ours are all the DCI 1.5 or
1.6mm RPK receivers. The forearms are also bigger than
usual for an AK, and the gas piston and barrel are
heavier.
