Something that I noticed yesterday on my XDm that didnt sit well with me. On top of the slide there is a Springfield engraving. In about half the engraving is this white substance which im hoping isnt corrosion or anything like that. theres also a tiny amount on some of the serrations. It looks like I chalked it to make out the engraving a little bit.

I clean the gun every time i come home from the range. I noticed it after I used Break Free powder cleaner. Im hoping its just left over residue from that or something. Any way, I always clean it. So I dont know if I might be doing something wrong? Normally I clean the outside of the slide with just a solvent or the powder cleaner. Should put some CLP or Oil on the outside of the frame and wipe it off? Im at work right now. When I get home Ill try to take pictures to show what I mean.

am I being overly paranoid?

Probably just residue from cleaning. The surface of an xD's slide is very tough stuff.

Wipe it down well with oil when you get home. Powder solvents (like Hoppes) are intended to remove fouling, not to lubricate or protect your guns. They do evaporate rather quickly, leaving either a bare surface or some residue behind.

Once you've cleaned the gun, you have to oil the wear surfaces and should wipe down all other surfaces with CLP or other good oil to prevent rust.

Alright. Ill do that when I get home. Yea I defiantly oil up the wear surfaces on the inside of the gun. I just didnt typically wipe it down with CLP on the outside though. Thanks for the advice.
