Taking some of the assaults that our military is encountering overseas, I would like to ask all of you..If you feel that you have prepared fairly well for home invasion scenarios...would you change your choice of tactics if you knew there might be incendiary devices and pyrotechnics involved?

Let's say you are sitting at your favorite PC late at night. The house is darkened and your favorite home defense gun is next to you. S.O and kids are asleep. You hear noises near the front door and BOOM!..The front door blows inward. Through the smoke and dust you see three figures moving through the opening.

Do you..move to confront them?

Retreat to safe room and hunker down?

What is your tactic of choice for a home invasion scenario? Would you change your tactics if explosives/incendiary devices is used by the BG's? If so, what tactics would you use to defend your home?

Your scenario is flawed and fantastical. If the BGs possessed the technical expertise to execute an exlosive entry, they certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to create so much noise as to have everyone within a quarter mile radius calling 911, drawing multiple units to the area. Unless, of course, you are a high value target to the authorities, and you consider them your BGs, this scenario isn't going to happen to you.

Assuming they were going to play these games, I'd cheat.

Crack open a bundle of lightsticks. Toss them down the hallway, kneel under half cover with AK loaded and wait for them to do something very very foolish.

First of all in the distances involved in a normal house, you'd be a bit stunned by the concussion. Then add into the mix the fact that anyone who could do an explosive entry would most likely also be proficient in dynamically clearing the target building. If you attempted to confront them you'd most likely be shot from at least two angles before you completed the first move towards them.

Most likley what you would do is be pushed to the floor and cuffed. Confront them with your lawyer in court.

If you have something of great enough value that criminals would use those tactics to come after it, you most likely would have a layered defense and guards so you weren't taken by surprise.

If the BGs are doing explosive entries in your neck of the woods, it's time to find another place to live...

IF you're in a place where BG's are likely to use explosive entry, then you can reply by tossing several grenades their way, and hosing down that part of the house with your full auto ___________ that you keep with you at all times. All of which will be common equipment in your part of Bagdad.

Sorry

Sorry Curare,
Last visit with my nephew on his R & R and watching what they do in Iraq..forgot we are not in that situation...yet..where the BGs use IEDs and various other incendiary devices to get "high value" targets. (Read..any "foreigner" that they can hit)

Just was thinking about how it was like with explosives going off on a daily basis. Of course, the insurgent home invasion is hitting your house with a bunch of folks with automatic weapon.

Fantastic? Depends on where you live. Folks from Indonesia, Phillipines, Russia, some parts of China, and other countries are facing this problem as we speak.
Thank goodness we live here where the insurgents haven't visited yet.

Regarding that quote - I know you are being facetious - I hope.

There have been some fairly violent entries made by thugs intent on assassinating others. The bad guys do not have to worry about being all that quiet when you live a few miles from anyone or at least miles from the nearest town and the police. They come in fast, do the hit, and depart faster. I cannot think of any using explosives to make entry or flash/bangs once inside but it is quite feasible that is a bad guy had a flash bang and wanted to do a hit on multiple people in a dwelling, he might well use it.

Best regards,
Glenn B.
