Ok, please, NO laughing! Got a large bolt knob from Savage. Now, to replace, all I need to do is remove the end cap with an Allen wrench, slide original off, slide new one on and replace end cap? Is there spring tension on this, or anything else I need to be aware of? Thanks for your help, I am quite familiar with handguns, but not rifles. BTW, this older Savage does not have the Accutrigger, if that makes a difference.

I am assuming the bolt must be removed from the rifle? No spring tension from the firing pin?

I don't think you even have to remove the bolt. There is no tension on the bolt handle. There is tensoin on the botton looking thing (sorry for the big tech words!) on the under side of the bolt body. When handleing the bolt, it is possible to dislodge this into the fire position and it will need to be set back in the rearward position prior to re-installing the bolt. Nothing to worry about.

MtnCreek, thanks for the info. This rifle is one sweet shooter, even with a little 4x and the the light barrel. The standard plastic stock is cheesy, but I'm afraid to change it for fear of messing up the accuracy. Have a good one.
