Ok so the bolt is simple enough, doesn't have the Savage floating bolt head or the easy way to remove the bolt handle. How do you get the handle off of the 700 bolt body if you want to put a different style on it. See lots of replacement bolt handles and knobs but I don't see how the handle is attached? What's up with it?

The 700 bolt handle is induction brazed to the bolt body during manufacture.
If you look real close you might see a silver weld seam, maybe.

Changing them is not impossible, but it ain't as easy as a lot of other rifles either.

Ok thanks rc. I saw the seam but thought it might just need to be heated and popped loose. Do you figure it to be easier to replace or just buy a new ody and handle? Thanks again all knowing lol

New bolt bodies can be had from PTG, but they require the bolt handle to be silver brazed, screwed on, or both as some like to do now (belt & suspenders). Any new bolt will have to be fit and headspaced to your receiver/barrel combo. Another option is to have someone experienced with the procedure cut off the knob, thread the stub, and screw on a new knob.

You could probably screw on a new knob as BBBBill suggests, or cut the bolt at the handle and weld on some other kind, but if you get the bolt too hot, you will melt the brazing. Frankly, I would leave it alone; IMHO it is not worth possibly ruining the bolt for a whim.
