went to the local pawn shop today and they had a lightly used charles daly EMS 2-tone 1911 for 300 bucks in the shop. i toyed with it a little and it felt tight. is it worth the gamble? i have heard horror stories, as well as shouts of praise, for the charles daly line of 1911's. someone even told me that charles daly and kimber were both made at IMI and were just sent to different factories for assembly. any truth to this?

by the way, i am skeptical of purchasing a hand gun of any company that goes belly up.

Not true.

Kimber is made in New York.

Charles Daly (which is now out of business) had their 1911's made by Armscor in the Philippines. Same as Rock Island Armory (RIA) and a couple of others.

The possible IMI connection is that Daly had been working a deal with Bul (like IMI also from Israel) for their new 1911. However, Bul sold the pistol to Magnum Research. Daly closed up shop shortly thereafter.

Armscor has an excellent customer service reputation.

Negative. At least the slide and frame forgings were made by Armscor of the Philippines, who also make them for the STI Spartan as well as complete guns from Rock Island Armory and others. 1911 parts interchange but require individual fitting.

As am I, normally, but CD/KBI was not a manufacturer, but an importer. Enough parts are common with other guns - some of which may still be in production, by other manufacturers - that I would not worry about this unduly, especially for a $300 gun.

Charles Daly 45

:neener:Chas. Dalys are good guns...buy it shoot it and dont worry about warranties, they are easily repaired if needed....:D

thanks for the replies. obviously someone else wanted it as it was gone today when i went back.

Picked up a springer ultra compact loaded instead.

Sometimes it just works out for you. You will never know how fortunate you are.
