Haven't seen any or handled any in person, but with $499 as the MSRP, you can bet they'll be selling for $50-100 less than that.

I haven't heard anything about quality/accuracy/reliability yet either....

As long as the quality is there, if it goes for $400-450, is that a reasonable price?

It is an FEG, WITH those cool sights, that have got to be worth 100 bucks to dovetail and install.

A stock FEG clone was selling for 200 not so long ago but with pretty mediocre sights, and the old small style saftey.

The second modified version of the FEG had the extended controls, but skimped on machining the slide.

The new CD HP looks like a true FH HP clone, with extended controls and better sights. I'd say thats worth around $350-400 easily.

In fact, I might buy one.. that is another one as I already have one FEG Hi-power.

If the quality is similar to their 1911s I would choose carefully. You can get a nice used Original HP for around $500, which to me would be a better investment.

A friend bought a NIB CD 1911 and kept having feeding problems. I checked it out for him. Zero tension on the extractor. Firing pin stop was held in place only by the firing pin so when the hammer drove the fp forward there was some lapse where the FP stop would ride the top of the frame and was gouging a nice track into it, 8lb trigger and had a feed ramp that looked like it was machined with a rock.

An hours worth of effort had it feeding and firing with zero malfunctions. He still needs a new fp stop fit to it and a trigger job, but free only gets you so far :D

You know you hear all kinds of stuff about guns...mostly bad. Nothing personal or flame towards you Big Daddy...but its true.

If you hear something about a gun on a forum...the odds are its not good. Id say its at least 1/4 good to 3/4 bad...for most.

CD isnt the greatest company in the world. But IMO, if they are using FEG guns/parts with Ashley sights...and it sells for 350-400$ Im still in line.

Shoot well

Well Eric, here is some of that rare good you sometimes hear about a gun (since Big Daddy brought it up).

I have had a Charles Daly 1911 for over 2 years. It has well over 5K rounds (I'd guess 6-6500 now but I stopped counting some time ago). Sure the mags were bad but it is a great gun. It is accurate, it is mostly reliable (a few hiccups now and then, but not often). Other than the mags I finally had to replace the recoil spring when it wore out after more than 5K rounds (I also replaced the FP spring since I hear that should be matched to the recoil spring- both are Wolff now). I like the gun a lot. In fact, since my best friend has bought his $900 (plus or minus a few bucks) Kimber he has had more problems with his 1911 than I have with mine and my Daly is more accurate.

Even in Big Daddy's friend's situation, he bought a 1911 that costs at least 10-20% less than the closest competition (30-40% less than the cheapest 1911s with comprable features). This particular gun has had some problems. Instead of taking advantage of the lifetime warranty his friend decided to deal with it himself. After 1 hour of work (and no parts yet) he now has zero malfunctions, but he still wants to replace one $5-10 part. Yeah, I guess you'd have to say Daly makes crap.

Anyway, I like my Daly enough that I plan to get another eventually, probably a 4" or 3.5" version. Also, as soon as the Hi-Power is out (and I'm out of MD since Daly doesn't put built-in locks on their guns and thus any post-Jan 1, 2003 gun can't be sold here) I will probably buy their Hi-Power. Hopefully, before then I'll have a used FN/Browning and/or an FM so I can really give it a good comparison to the "real thing".

I never said directly that a CD was crap. Fact is, there are a lot of 1911s that are problematic from the box. I have heard a lot of negatives about CDs, but there are plenty of happy customers. Cosmetically I think that my friend's gun is pretty nice for the money. Internally it left a lot to be desired.

I build 1911s for fun, from custom parts and I do a pretty damn good job :D So next to my guns most factory guns are crap :D

My only point is that for the money (depending on final street price) you can have the original. I like to think I'm not too much of a gun snob, but if someone said here, choose one for $450, FN Browning Hi Power used in good condition or Charles Daly new clone, I'd choose the FN hands down.

They may be nice, we'll have to wait and see. IMO though, a lot of people buy new "clones" because they are new when a slightly used original with a proven track record is available.

I know, and I'm sorry that I might have implied that you did. It is just that many people do, and usually over "problems" no bigger than what you were describing. To me a $450 gun that has a few more examples than average that may need about $25-50 worth of work to work perfectly does not make it "crap" in comparison to a $700 gun that is a little more likely to work fine right out of the box (not to mention that most Dalys, like mine, work right out of the box too).

Well when I bought my first HP clone I didn't HAVE $500 for an FN made one. In the years of shooting my FEG its been a joy. FEG arguably has had some fit/finish issues over the years but they still FUNCTION. In that regard, I'm not sure the Browning is a better 'investment".

Sure if you want a Browning or FN, get one. if you want a reliable pistol and don't care about the brand name as much, the FEG was a true bargain.

The Best looking HP Clone ever is stamped MAUSER, and was made by FEG as well.

Just food for thought.

What if someone doesn't like XS sights? I only shot an XD with them once and I wasn't impressed. I wonder if they will have some other sight available or will XS sights be the only option. The price will just go up if the buyer has to replace the sights after they get the gun. Then charles daly will void your warranty for having someone work on the gun besides them. I know I have a DDA 45 that has no warranty over a spring. Mark

all rumors bs

Anyone that has heard anything it is wrong, you can call CD, they will not even be available to end of September if we are lucky. No one has shot a production model yet, all models so far are prototypes.
