I'd like to see evidence of that myself, if there is any, which I doubt.

Racists didn't march with King, they marched against him.

Sexist? What does that mean exactly? Somebody who was raised in a different tradition than today's "anything goes, if it feels good do it?"

Well, color me sexist, too. I'm a known, blatant holder of doors for women. Shame on me.

In today's lingo, racist means anybody who disagrees with a liberal. I'm guilty of that myself, how can you not disagree with "ideals" like those?

Well, I don't pretend to know everything, but I am not aware of any evidence that Heston was a racist.

Bloodesky, please enlighten me.

In 1999, Heston gave a speech at Harvard Law School. Among his other remarks were these, which I highly suspect were what inspired bloodedsky's cluelesss comments:

Right now at more than one major university, Second Amendment scholars and researchers are being told to shut up about their findings or they'll lose their jobs. Why? Because their research findings would undermine big-city mayor's pending lawsuits that seek to extort hundreds of millions of dollars from firearm manufacturers.

I don't care what you think about guns. But if you are not shocked at that, I am shocked at you. Who will guard the raw material of unfettered ideas, if not you? Who will defend the core value of academia, if you supposed soldiers of free thought and expression lay down your arms and plead, "Don't shoot me."

If you talk about race, it does not make you a racist. If you see distinctions between the genders, it does not make you a sexist. If you think critically about a denomination, it does not make you anti-religion. If you accept but don't celebrate homosexuality, it does not make you a homophobe.

I am with El Tejon,

Bloodesky, give us examples, back up your claim.

Are you upset that he used the term black rather than african-american? Do you have something beyond that?

A no-compromise, no BS, straight-talking American Patriot. Proud of America, enough to proclaim his disgust with the direction it was headed. He didn't back down, and many years later, we're seeing how much worse it can get, because we haven't fixed it, haven't stood up for what is right. He won't be in the grave long before the spinning starts!

And congrats, bloodredsky, in ten years, on a dozen fora, I've never put anyone on an "Ignore" list. Until now. You Earned It, you sad little man. :(

There is video of The Man saying sexist things at an NRA gathering.

Interesting.

Since the early 90's, I was fortunate to write a lot of "things" that Mr. Heston said when addressing the Association membership. Maybe I wrote those things?

Don't think so.

Maybe some of the others who wrote for Heston and Baker and Carter and LaPierre, et al wrote those things?

Don't think so.

Like Rembrandt and Mr. Workman, I knew the man.

It's obvious you didn't. Very obvious.

Put up or shut up.

We lose a great one with the passing of Mr. Heston. I don't care whether you like the man or not, but someone willing to put their name, their reputation, and their energies behind supporting the 2nd amendment that we all benefit from, is deserving of your respect.

I echo much of what has been said regarding this man and his efforts. He is deserving of our gratitude, our respect, and our happiness for him passing to a better place.

BloodedSky: Trying to keep this high road, give me a friggin break. What you have done is throw out ridiculous claims that thus far have not been validated in the least. Add to that, with someone as famous as Charleton Heston promoting the NRA for pete sakes, you can't tell me that if the man was a racist, a sexist, or any other "ist" you want to claim, that it would not have been literally plastered all over the place in an attempt to discredit his message regarding the 2nd amendment.

As someone mentioned, you always have 1 in the bunch. Class act! Keep up the good work. (Sarcasm Emphasized)

RIP To a truly unique man. I am not surprised that some would make up things about him. and/or quote things out of context. It has always been that way. If you can't stand that someone is a good man/women you "attempt" to tear them down. (often when there is NO CHANCE of them refuting your claims) So sad.
I would ask folks not quote entire posts of folks like that. I put them on ignore for a reason. Quote the part you are going to refute is grand. Just don't post the entire posts of "them" (to stay withing guidlines of HR)

Absolutely! Well said! R.I.P. to a true American!

His speech on the cultural war was impressive and moving in every respect. We lost an honorable and courageous man today. Be with God my brother!

Heston marched in support of the civil rights movement, so I find it hard to believe that he was a racist.
