George Hill, wasn't he exonerated from all charges? Or am I wrong? Still, he was a warrior of warriors and a former commander of one of my master chiefs, that I hold in high regard.

There are two different approaches that can be used to get what you want concerning pro gun legislation....let me use the following example:

A parent and child go shopping at Walmart, the small child wants a toy....parents say no, child begins whinning and begging. Parent still refuses.....now the child is desperate and begins getting louder, crying, and throwing a temper tantrum....parent is embarrassed and frustrated, other shoppers see the situation and want to beat the kid ....child has a 50/50 chance of getting what he wants.

....same situation, only this time the child motions the parent to come closer....gives the parent a big hug and whispers how much they love the parent....parent melts into a puddle of mush, bystanders all smile with affection and parent is proud as punch that this is their offspring....child has 90% chance of getting the toy. The difference in the two senarios is approach to getting what you want.

....Maybe it's not the best illustration, but we can't afford to alienate people opposed to our point of view. Congressmen and Senators need to feel comfortable aligning themselves with 2nd Amendment representatives. They don't want their image or picture taken with someone who might cost them votes. Professionalism will yield far greater results than a person holding an AK daring someone to try an take it away. Hollywood has already portrayed American gun owners as fringe redneck bubbas....we need leaders who portray a firm and professional image.

OK I have a serious question about the next NRA president, as well as a comment.

First the question. How is it that alot of us get all bent out of shape when the anti's use a celeb to help there cause and we are all for using a celeb when it benifits us.

Now for my statement I believe an average Joe should be the next president of the NRA. I want someone who knows what real life is like, not some rich celeb. I want someone who can relate to me. Joe Shcmoe the plumber or whatever his occupation is should be the next President of the NRA.

Here is a little background on the next NRA President....Kayne Robinson is a former military veteran, worked as a police officer for years before becoming assistant Chief of Police for Des Moines. He was also the public relations spokesman for the department, always the person TV reporters interviewed at crime scenes...competitive handgun shooter, loves hunting and sporting clays. Has been active in legislative matters and curbing gun legislation for years. His knowlege of political tactics is impressive... he never won an Oscar or parted the Red Sea, but is very qualified for the position.

Many of the past presidents were also every day folks as well....Marion Hammer, the late Tom Washington, and others....

I'd vote for Bill O'Reilly.
Then you'd be voting for someone who is no friend of gunowning Americans. O'Reilly is fairly conservative, but holds a pretty elitist view of guns. I've heard him spout off a few times and was pretty surprised by what he had to say. I guess if you did a search at Fox News, there may be some info to validate this. geegee

Rembrandt,
Excellent example using the Wal-Mart / little boy scenario. Who ever we get must portray NRA in a professional straight forward firm manor that won’t scare Aunt Bea or those that only listen to sound bites and not explore the issues for themselves. This person should already be know in the media/public in a positive light. This way at least when they do speak about the issues, most people will listen for period of time.

That is why I suggested whom I did…

Enjoy…

An anti-firearms coworker of mine was the first source to inform me that Heston stepped down. I felt like the typical poo-poo head.

It'll be interesting in the next few weeks regarding the NRA hierarchy.

Where did all this Heston-love come from? What happened to the "Heston not doing enough" crowd? Why aren't they chiming in.

P.S. I am unofficially announcing myself as the leading candidate for presidency. I photograph wonderfully. For my qualifications see the "greatest military leader" thread (yes, I am that guy) and "who invented the gun" thread (I also claimed that title).

Of the ones mentioned in this thread, I'd vote for Tom. Get a little coaching on "gun speak" and he'd make a great President. Ted would be good too ... but is more likely to "rock the boat " and in his "kick butt" Rock & Roll style .... (which I personally would enjoy, but may not be good overall).

It's sort of an image thing I guess.

What about Ted as "V.P." ! The dynamic duo ...

"What happened to the "Heston not doing enough" crowd? Why aren't they chiming in."

Pure human decency most likely. The man has retired from his second career. He is seriously ill. He has done more than most and with more class than any. Why be shrill and annoying when it is more productive to look to the future?

John
