Hi guys I have been competing in competitions for a few months now, and have been using the club gun which is a CZ452.

The competition I want a rifle for is field rifle. 12 shoots rapid fire 25 yards, 10 shoots off hand 25 yards, Standing post 10 shots 50 yards and sitting post 10 shots 50 yards. Also a bit of 100 yard prone competition!

I have a limited budget,

I want a rifle for under $600
I want to be able to adjust the trigger down to between 8 and 12 oz
I son't want to have to buy a new trigger!

What do you suggest?

As Grandma said, your wants won't hurt you.
A hair trigger like that will be hard to find on an inexpensive factory rifle.
The CZ 453 has a single set trigger but I would not want to try to manage one in rapid fire.
Savage makes a number of .22s in the Mk II series with their Accutrigger but I don't know if any are available with the Target Accutrigger that will set that light.
The Izmash Biathalon Basic has a good light trigger but not sub one pound.

I think you would be best served by a CZ of your own.
The Brooks trigger kit will go nearly as light as you say and is only US$15.
The Rifle Basix is a proper adjustable trigger but is about US$80.

Can you still find these new? I haven't seen them around for a while.

For less than $600 you can buy any of the CZs, plus a Yodave trigger
kit ($23.00) and put it in youself. Lightest spring in the kit gave me 10 oz. without removing the adjusting nut. This is not your grandad's 40x but a very good value with a very light trigger and no creep.

If you go with a CZ and the YoDave trigger kit, don't forget a bump test. Test the action out of the stock with a rubber mallet.I have heard of a few guys splitting the stock performing a bump test on their CZ.

If you want a 452 or 453 better act soon as they are being discontinued and replaced with the 455.

BTW the Winchester Wildcat Target/Varmint (Heavy barrelled version) can be had for under $250.00 if you look around a bit. They are made in Russia, are very accurate, and come with four magazines. They don't have a 10 oz trigger, but the stock trigger is pretty smooth and can be adjusted down to 3# or a little less.

Open sights... CZ 452 Trainer and add the trigger kit.
Scoped... CZ 453 with the single set trigger.

Try one of the Savage Mark IIs. I usually would never recommend one, but in this case you might want to give em a look. I have no experience with a bull barrel, but the one I had with the regular barrel was pretty darn accurate. $600 would get you into a really nice one, and the trigger might need a little work, buts ill even admit its the nicest out of the box trigger available in the price range.

If the rapid fire wasn't something you wanted, then id say go buy a Kimber 82 and be done with it. Mine is MOA at 100 all day long, very very nice trigger, and the quality of workmanship is in a completely different league than the CZs and Savages. But a single shot doesn't sound like what you need, so id say look into the Savage.

Or if semi autos are your thing, at $600 you looking at a 10/22 with bull barrel, nice trigger pack, and maybe even money left for a scope. Its hard to go wrong with a 10/22, but im not sure if you were looking at semi-auto or bolts.

I have one of the Savage MKII from the CMP and I can tell you that with wolf match ammo this gun is a tac driver out to 100 yards. The trigger is the best you will find in a stock gun ( and better then most after market triggers) and the heavy bull barrel is fantastic.

Now I'd actually like a customized 10/22 but if you want cheap and factory, the MKII is what you need.

I love mine. I scrounge through the trash at the range, and use the 1/4" dots that people through away for targets at 25-50 yards. If in a magazine, I fail to hit the dot, it's me, and, I'm not using match grade ammo.

Jack Huntington did the trigger, and it's well under 2 pounds.

I should mention this is setup to match my .375 H&H, CZ.
Speak of the devil, here he is testing the .375.

I don't think the 453 is being discontiued. CZ calls them the "new generation" on their website....I'll likely pick up a 453 Varmint at the next local GS.
