Cheap RDS vs. Aimpoint/Trijicon

I currently have a $40 reflex sight on my gun. It's got a lot of features, but I'm not too impressed with the quality (not surprising considering the price...it works good enough, though, which is more than I can say for the last one I got).

My issues with it are 3-fold:

1) Battery life requires me to use the on/off switch. I know that Trijicon's non-electronic tritium/FO and the high efficiency of Aimpoint sights would alleviate this issue. This is also why I am not considering an EoTech.

2) The reticle doesn't appear 100% clear. It still works to shoot, but I'm thinking it has to do with how bright the reticle is. I'm guessing a more expensive option would be clearer, both due to QC and better brightness control. Is this the case?

3) The screen isn't flat, especially warps the reticle near the edges. When in the center of the sight it's fine, but it looks weird at the edges. Is this normal for a RDS, or is this just cheap construction?

Like I said, the one I have right now technically works, but I'm wondering if I should use my tax return this year on a nicer option. I'm leaning towards the Trijicon, but aimpoint is still on my radar. The only bad thing I've heard about EoTech is battery life (especially where sometimes batteries get drained even while off), which is a deal-breaker for me on those.

I like the trijicon and currently use one of the older model reflex ACOG

As you are beginning to figure out there is a large difference in quality and function between quality optics and Chinese wal mart grade.

I think the trijicon is a very underrated reflex. No batteries, day and night illumination and automatic brightness based on ambient lighting are key advantages. The newer triangle reticle can allow for some fairly precise aiming.

I surf the web and buy mine used typically for around $200 but heed my warning once you step up to these quality optics you will never again find Chinese junk optics satisfactory.

I'm leaning toward the Trijicon over the aimpoint now. My only concern is that with dark ambient light but bright light in front of the sight (i.e. at night, with a weaponlight pointing at the target) it might be hard to see the reticle. Of course, I've never used either of these IRL (plenty in video games where the dot is always easily visible) so I'm not sure if that would be a real issue or not.

I had the same concern but that's not how they work.

The light accumulator is on the front of the optic so its always gathering the same bright light the gun is pointed at that you're looking into and thus adjusts accordingly.
