As a general rule, buying AR parts from CTD is a very bad idea...

Buy right the first time, and you only buy once...

Generally speaking, Leapers = China. Some of the dirt cheap items from China are functional, I use Leapers scope rings with good results but refrain from other products particularly scopes due to their very low quality. The problem I see with the rear AR sight in question (at least IMO) is the clamping claw that directly attaches to the base. It appears to be made of sheet metal. From my experience, sheet metal claws are poor. Easy to torque down and bend them. Also, the nut the claw is clamped down with is the type that has the bolt going through the middle of the screw driver slot. On lower quality clamps that have this set-up, if the bolt is long enough, it will prevent the screw driver from going into the slot (as I've experienced in the past).

If the choice were up to me, I'd pass despite its price. But, it is cheap and should put you in the poor house if you are willing to try it out. (I've had more than my fair share of trying out low end stuff. Always looking for a great bargain. This sight does not look to be one of them.)

Leapers = China
China = Junk

Buy a good used BIUS off the ar15.com Equipment Exchange. I got one recently for $50 shipped. The $20 you save isn't worth getting some POS made in China that's out of spec and is made from soft materials.

A BUIS is supposed to remain functional if your main optic fails. I have a feeling anything that hits my EOTech hard enough to break it will almost certainly break a cheap cast part from China. I'd say spend a bit more and get some YHM or other good backups.
If they are going to be your main optic and you'll never take the gun in a harsh environment outside a range (think Katrina. Got something else you'd definitely take instead?) then it might be worth a shot.

Thanks for the replies.

Drew, I may get an optic in the distant future, but it's not in the budget right now and I want to become proficient with iron sights. I'm asking about BUIS instead of just getting a carry handle because I'd like to be able to mount an optic with the sight, should I eventually buy one, and the mall ninja in me just likes the looks of a fixed BUIS better than a carry handle.:p

Do any of you guys have experience with the Model1Sales fixed BUIS? It seems to be identical to the LMT model, but is about $30 less ($90 vs $120) and comes with a National Match elevation drum.

Also, what are your thoughts on adjustable vs. non-adjustable elevation on a rear sight? Everything I've read pretty much says an elevation adjustment isn't necessary on an AR rear sight, but I can't get over the idea that it's better to have it and not need it than not have it when I want/need it. Skipping the elevation adjustment would also allow me to save a few bucks by getting the fixed YHM rear sight ($53 from rbprecision). :confused:

How far are you going to shoot?

How far and under what conditions will determine whether you need an adjustable rear sight. If you're doing just 100 - 300 yard stuff, get the fixed elevation model and dial it in using the front post. If you expect to stretch it out and shoot at varying ranges, get the adjustable model.

My local range only goes out to 200 yards. I was leaning toward getting the elevation adjustment as a "just in case I get the chance to use it" kind of thing, since the sights I've looked at (except for the YHM) are in the same price range.

Hhmmm, it looks alot like the A2 handle sight. It gets pretty good reviews. Now, having made those observations, I still would prefer the ARMS #40.
