Chechnya home made weapons

Doesn't surprise me much. Think about the Sten clones the French Resistance and other groups build during WW2. Stens even have a lot of features which aren't neccesary (selective fire for instance). If you're looking for just a cheap, cheerful lead hose for grabbing an enemy's AK, MP40 or similar, a smoothbore barrel would probably do. (Did for Liberator pistols).

Interesting to see what has been built. The SMGs weren't very surprising to me, or I suppose the Mosin clones. The semi-auto pistol which looked like it'd been cast from aluminium was though. The snubby with the safety catch seemed well made too. The anti-armour rifle was... surprising...

The SMG's look like different generations of something that came out of the workshop of one guy that bought that Metral book. They're a little scary, and the .50 (12.7mm?) is kind of like that Croatian Manda, where they had some .50 MG barrels and decided to whip up an anti-material rifle; nasty but the twist rate is probably wrong for the application.
Most of the rest of the stuff looks like an article in The Backwoodsman, except they're not flint/percussion black powder... "The pistol I made over the winter using an antler tip, a rubber mallet, my fireplace tools, and a junked tractor".

Over in Chechnya, right now, someone's saying "Look at the way he Boratted that perfectly good AK".

The anti armor rifle is awsome. Like I bet people would pay top dollar for such a beast.

I saw a show where this guy made rusty, beat up looking hot rods. I bet someone could do that with guns....

This reminds me of some of the homebrewed rifles and pistols from occupied Northern Ireland during the troubles.
you can make all the ridiculous gun laws in the world, people will still either make their own or get them from those who CAN have them.

ETA, this looks like some of the **** they get at "gun buy back" programs....

I think the commentary is even funnier than the guns.
Nothing funnier than people who know jack about guns expounding on the political ramifications thereof.

Lom-30 uses ammunition from Russian automatic grenade launcher AGS-17. The new Chechen weapon has high mobile characteristics (weighs 6.5 kg) and an effective range of fire, up to 2 km. It is a kind of handheld grenade-launcher, which is capable of eliminating enemy manpower and destroying light vehicles at a distance of 14 to 2,000 meters. Moreover, the new weapon can now be used to hit low-flying targets, according to the site. Maskhadov and Commander Abu-Idris said the model has virtually been put on the production line, but did not specify where the new weapon is manufactured.

Maskhadov also announced that Chechen gun-makers are now developing other types of weaponry as well, which will soon be provided to the Chechen troops. The new Chechen weapon has raised fears among the Russian military circles as it would pose threats to the Russian forces in the war-torn republic. Lom 30 will enable the Chechen fighters to easily hit the Russian targets, according to a Russian expert who declined to be identified. Another Russian expert said the new weapon will be used by the Chechen fighters to target buildings and cars due to its light weight, urging the Russian special units to find as fast as possible the manufacturing place of the weapon.

I don't think I'd want to fire one of these at "14 meters" but I don't wear
suicide belts either.
