Chest rig? Why not!

The BCM chest rig is my favorite. Definately check it out. Lightweight and good for hot days. Really simple. I strap an extra Kydex to it, and keep another kydex on my belt for comp.

It's primary purpose is to store ammo for me, not tacticool at all. But if I need to bug out I can just grab the chest carrier and my rifle. It fits over a f/r plate carrier even on "big" Ohio type guys.

I actually own the NCStar model and although not used for airsoft I do use mine when coyote hunting. I hunt with an AR15 in .223 and the vest comes in very handy for holding my mags and other gear since when heading out my hands are often full of other gear. I do also carry my Ruger P95 in the chest holster as well. We have cougs here and the occasional dog has been know to sneak up from behind so the pistol comes in handy at time. Then at home the vest hangs on the wall for that "just in case time".

Thanks!

Lot of good suggestions here, but I think I'm gonna go with the Eagle universal rig, at least for my first one. It has everything I would need plus additional attachment points in case I want to add anything else, plus it's relatively cheap.

Thanks again.:)

My preference is to use a small fighting bag such as this one from OneSource Tactical.

Let me post my own criteria:

Able to hold 6-7 AK mags.

Webbing to add a holster or other items.

Under 100

Universal.

I have ZERO, let me repeat, ZERO need for a chest rig. I'm not fighting in any wars, not competing in any 3 gun matches, etc. But I want one. I have a S&W M&P15-22 with a slew of magazines and a chest rig would be great for my backwoods shenanigans. I have a couple of caveats however:

At least you are admitting the "zero need" factor. Don't be that guy who puts on a chest rig to go to the range.

If you were more of an AK guy I'd suggest this- its historic. I may grab one of these simply because they hold six AK-74 mags (so it would easily hold AR mags). Just nice for storage and maybe for my son for Halloween one year.

These were used in Afghanistan and are apparently very good. Soviet Liftchik:

I like the Tactical Tailor MiniMav but don't use it very often. A belt is much better for a class or SD environment and can still hold 2-3 mags. If I ever need more than that I am in a situation I should not be in.
2 mags on my belt + 1 in the gun + a ReadyMod(depending on gun) = 90-120 rounds.

Can you imagine as a civilian needing more than 120 rounds?

At least you are admitting the "zero need" factor. Don't be that guy who puts on a chest rig to go to the range.

Train like you fight. If I am working with an AK I usually do wear a Chest rig and will put on a Vest to practice reloads.

5.11 has a small chest rig that is very handy, every so often they have things on sale at a SUPER price...

I believe this is what your are looking for. It's a chest rig that attaches over your shoulders and chest and can hold multiple pouches for all your mags.

The more universal, the better. Who knows, one day I might find myself in a 3 gun match.

I have an RBAV with the hard and soft plates that I was given when a project ended, but I found it next to useless for 2 or 3-gun (used without plates obviously). It's hard to grab magazines quickly and the RBAV got in the way of my pistol mags and pistol. After watching what other shooters were using, I noticed one shooter had a S.T.R.I.K.E. Drop Leg Platform from Blackhawk so I ordered one. My LGS has hundreds of the MOLLE pouches for about $3 each (retired from active duty) so I put three on the DLP. Magazine access is fast and more consistent (muscle memory) with accessing pistol mags and they don't get in the way of anything else or hinder normal movement. Just my personal experience.

I have the centerfire systems vest and I really do not like it (except of course foreign tourists love it for pictures). The vest bunches up in my shoulder awkwardly making it really difficult to shoulder a rifle. I much prefer carrying a couple mags on my belt an in my pockets. Seriously, how often are you going to rip off 3 mags so quickly that reaching into your pocket for a 4th will make a differnce? Or 6 mags so quickly you cannot dig into a backpack?

If I were to get another I'd get something like that russian one above where there is little around your shoulders, and it is light. A buddy of mine has a chinese one like it that is perfect.
