I know there has been a person or two who was interested in the Chiappa remake of the FAS 604 so I am throwing out some pictures and initial thoughts of the one I just picked up.

I had been wanting to pick one of these up for a long time but a combination of availability, money on hand when available and some trepidation regarding Chiappa as the parent company kept me from picking one up until now. Let's hear it for Christmas guilt free money. :D

Just to the cut to the chase I am very very happy with my initial out of the box observations.

So what do we get? We start of with the fact that the FAS6004 is packaged in a very nice hard/foam lined case that is GIGANTIC.

Honestly its a nice case that could hold a couple of normal handguns easily.

Inside we get the gun, tiny pamphlet of a manual, a couple stickers, extra seal, allen wrench and the gun.

Pictures really don't do the build quality FEEL justice. This is an all metal, well finished, nicely stocked handgun. Everything is smooth and works very precisely. I was very pleased on my initial handling. There was light coat of a heavy oil/grease or some such on the outer surfaces as well out of the box.

The best comparison I can make is that this gun is a bit smaller but similar in build quality feel, possibly even better than a Weihrauch HW75. Honestly both these pistols feel first rate in every way.

The trigger out of the box with no adjustment has VERY little travel to the break point and a slightly heavy break but with no over travel and a really clean break. I would say once adjusted it will be better then the HW75 trigger which is no slouch in that department.

Accuracy out of the box was good for my air pistol shooting. I through 20 or 30 Crosman Premier Competition wadcutters through it and was able to easily stay in the 9 or 10 ring at around 25 feet. THIS IS NO GREAT FEAT FOR EITHER OF THESE PISTOLS AS THEY ARE SHOOTER LIMITED TO A GREAT DEGREE. The point is out of the box, unfamiliar with the pistol I was able to get very satisfactory results which leads me to believe that with time and or a good driver behind the trigger this is a very accurate gun.

I ordered the standard grip and it is fantastic for my small to medium/small sized paws. It looks great, feels great and has nice stippling and grain to it.

All in all out of the box I have to say I am both impressed and pleasantly surprised.

The gun is by no means cheap. Good airguns cost REAL gun money. This model was $399 shipped to my door but for those of you who have never experienced a high quality air rifle or air pistol, trust me when I say, there is no comparison to the typical Chinese copies or Walmart/Academy Sports type retail guns. High Quality airguns are easily as nice if not nicer then a great many firearms. They also tend to have better triggers and can be as accurate as a high end .22 out to ranges of 40-60 yards depending on the rifle.

This pistol, of course, is a low powered pneumatic affair designed for 10m shooting but beyond the range limitation it is easily the equal of a really good .22 pistol.

So there you have it, my out of the box initial observations on the Chiappa FAS 6004.

I hope to followup a bit once I get some use out of it.

Take care, shoot safe,
Chris

I have put a few rounds through it tonight and I have to say I am really liking it very much. The target below is 12 RWS Meisterkugeln wadcutters shot standing, two handed at about 23-25 feet. I was using crappy paper so there is some tearing but all in all I am happy with the results, again with the caveat being that I AM NOT a great air pistol shooter. I over control the *(&^ out of them after many, many, many years of shooting firearms. I could NEVER shoot any kind of true 10m match type quality. I do know enough to be able to say that mechanically this pistol seems very accurate.

At any rate here is one of the first real groups. 23-25ish feet. 12 shots, 11 in the center group, 1 flyer that I called in my head probably long before the pellet left the barrel. (It was one of those you just know you boned that one type of shots) :D

I think I like this better then my HW75.

Thanks for posting this. $399 isn't bad for an all metal and wood air air pistol, especially seeing where the izh43 is in price these days.

How do you pump this one?

Release at rear next to rear sight. You then lever up and toward the top strap and barrel. The sucks in air. Upon closing and locking back in place you are compressing that air making the close cycle more "difficult". It's not hard at all just some resistance as you compress the air.

Thanks:) Now I can see that pivot bolt towards the muzzle. If you didn't mind, keep us posted on round count. Love to see how this one holds up over time. I have a daisy 747 that I love using, but wouldn't mind a step up from it.

cslinger- just wanted to see how the FAS 6004 was holding up for you. Also, how does it compare to the HW75? They are very close in price. Would you choose one over the other?

Mine really hates being cold. I got it something like 9 months ago, and I shoot in my detached, unheated garage. When the temp gets down to the 40s, it becomes unreliable and sometimes pressurizes well for a shot, sometimes not. Below 40 it doesn't work at all. I'm pretty sure the piston is failing to seal.

Other than "keep it indoors until ready to shoot," any suggestions to improve sealing of the piston?
