Does anyone know where these rifles are coming from? I was under the impression that we can't import rifles from China? I would like to know the history of them, like where they have been and what they may have done.

Thanks in advance.

I bought mine a few years ago from Omega Arms; I've seen several distributors with them, but I don't know the importer.

I've never heard anything about them not being eligible for importation.

I have a 1953.10 (October) Chinese T53 I got from my work a few months back. It has decently good condition wood and for a mismatched T53 its as good as it gets. The bayonet was missing when I got it but I just last week got one and its now complete with sling and looks great. I haven't taken any post bayonet pics yet.
It actions and feeds much better then my 1943 izzy 91-30 and the trigger is much better also. I must say all around it feels higher quality.

as for real info http://www.mosinnagant.net/global mosin nagants/Chinese-T53Carbine.asp

i do believe that chinese guns that fall under curio/relic status (such as mosin t53 or some sks's) are still legal for import. afterall my chinese sks was imported very recently.

I believe that only sporting shotguns can be imported from China. I think there is a loophole where Chinese built C&R rifles can be imported via another country. The recent SKS rifles were imported from Albania.

I believe they are comming from Albania as are all the crappy looking Chinese sks we are seeing lately

Mine came from Vietnam, my dad brought it back in the early 60's along with a lot of other stuff like flags, swords and crossbows.

THATS what i meant. sorry, thanks for jarring my memory into working. :)

Chinese Firearms that have been in a third country for x years can be imported.
The ban was on "Military Style" firearms, so no SKS's, AK's, M14's, etc. directly from China.

Importers could buy Chinese arms and store them in a third country for 10 yrs (I Think).
They would still have to deal with 922 before Import.

The OP was asking about the recent imports, not rifles from years ago.

The T53s have two stories floating around. Either they are also from Albania or someone had them in storage for years and finally sold them off. Personally, I think the Albanian angle makes more sense.

The recent crop of Chinese SKS came from Albania, and some collectors are starting to call them "Sino-banians". Many of the examples in the recent batch have Albanian features, for instance my Sino-banian came with an Albanian SKS bolt carrier.

we can't import rifles manufactured by norinco(north china industries company). the type 53, and Chicom SKS that are everywhere were not built by norinco, they were built in military factories and are imported as C&Rs.
