Hello all! My most recent addition to the collection is a Chinese type 56 sks in beautiful shape. Unlike my others it has no factory marking or code. No triangle or anything similar. Only markings are the import marks which is CGA. LA California. It is also marked with the serial number in all the "normal" places.

So I figure it's probably a commercial rifle made in the pre Norinco ban years. Previous owner picked it up in 1995 from the original owner and claims to fired 300 rounds through it total (I believe this to be true). It has a pinned barrel but also has a milled TG. Does anyone else have a CGA imported SKS? Or does anyone have any info about these guns? Could it be a refurbished rifle? I'll post a few pics of it tomorrow sometime.

Thanks in advance to all!

Thanks very much for the information, I dove into all those posts and learned alot! Seems most don't know much about the non factory 26 rifles!

I know this is an old update for this post but I found something really cool on this sks! If you shine a light just right onto the import marks you can make out a square marking (an old arsenal code) under the bluing! Obvious proof of a refurbished rifle I believe. To me this is very exciting to see what is left of the old markings.

The mark looks like a square with a chinese character that resembles an "E" inside of it

The gun has a few other signs of being refurbished in China at some point. It at least seems this gun may have not been produced for the sole purpose of importation as many previously stated was the case for some date prefixed early importation sks rifles but perhaps a militia rifle or something of the sort.

what would dictate the illegality of it? I thought the Russians scrubbed and renumbered small arms by the millions.

If she shoots anything like my old plain jane norinco with a pinned barrel I would be thrilled. That thing could out shoot its share of other carbines.
