Chip on new glock barrel

Just picked up a new Glock 26 Gen 4. See the picture linked below. It has what looks like chipped finish on the muzzle of the barrel. Is this going to be a problem or not?

I wouldn't worry about it. Once you start shooting it, it will have wear rings on the top of the barrel from contact with the slide anyhow

It shoots higher than my other Glocks. Same Meprolight sights and everything. Could be just me though.

Good question. No, what you see is the full extent of it. When I run my fingers over it I don't even feel anything. I think it is just the finish.

I just always was told to protect your muzzle because something messed up on it will throw your bullets off.

it looks like you should "feel" it if it is a chip,

Already cleaned the gun, and I tried to get that off. I agree it looks like you should feel it.

Looks like nothing to me. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as the bore isn't dinged it isn't a big deal. Glocks have had all kinds of bad stuff done to them in torture tests and then they still shoot fine.

Ya Glocks quality control has really been lacking, if you check over at Glock talk there are a bunch of people with beat up new guns and ones that have wild ejection like my new glock 17.

That spot may be more prone to rust if it is in-fact a chip. The surface metal is gone, leaving untreated metal exposed. But as long as it's not affecting the rifling, you'll be ok. As long as it groups fine, you can adjust your POA to match POI though new sights or a different hold.

Yup. Thats likely to cause you grief at 5-600 yards.

I've got a Gen 3 G19 which was test fired in 2011. 2212 rounds through it so far. The slide itself still looks like it did the day I bought it....no wear marks at all. The barrel has a slight wear mark on the sharp edge of the chamber hood. There is a very slight ring on the top of the barrel...otherwise it still looks brand new.

Not sure if this Glock is the new finish or not, but it is still easily in NRA very good condition maybe even excellent after over 2K rounds.

I wonder if your sight is causing the high poi, maybe the lack of finish (smear CLP on it and call it good) has nothing to do with it, if you're not missing steel from the crown it should be fine.

It won't rust, the black finish is purely cosmetic. The Tennifer treatment is to the metal it's self.
It's not a chip but a flaw in the top finish.

It wouldn't get me all warm and fuzzy if I bought a new gun and it came home looking like an abused gun.

And if you go back and try for a trade-in or sale three months or years from now?
Might as well knock off a $100 bill in resale value!!

Any dealer will spot that before you get it laid down on the showcase!


Now, if that was your new cars driver side door, or steering wheel, or a chip in the windshield?

Would that be O.K. too??

The treatment is to the surface, so a deep enough chip will leave untreated metal. Though I agree, it doesn't look like a chip to me.

That seems a little dramatic to me. I doubt it'd knock much off of a Glock's resale and a chip that small might not even be noticed. How many dealers pick up the gun and point it directly at their face?

I don't disagree with you often but on this I do. Seems like a waste of someone's time to send it back over this.

Cosmetic only ... it may just wipe off. But after shooting it a few hundred rounds, you'll never notice it again.

It doesn't look like anything to me. I think I would just shoot it. Then shoot it some more. And some more.

It looks like surface finish contact damage to me. Won't affect anthing except OCD. Cover it with a Sharpie and forget about it.

Just touch it up if you don't want to see it, with a touch up pen.
