I had a very pleasant experience with Choate Machinery this week-after being pretty ticked off with Savage Arms.
4 years ago I ordered Choate's Ulimate Varmint stock for my then left-hand Savage 10FL (.308). The stock fit fine and I have enjoyed it. However, I decided to turn the .308 in a GP "hunting" rifle and ordered a new Savage.
The rifle I ordered was on of the new Savage Model 10FP ("police") with the new accutrigger (and the trigger is very nice). However, the deminsions of the rifle changed, wish Savage had told me before I ordered it. Savage says that they told their suppliers 8 months ago about the changes. But Choate and Leupold (the damn receiver was changed and so all of the old scope mounts for the "old" model 10's - why didn't they use a new model number! - don't fit.) say they did not learn about the changes until the rifles began shipping.
Long story short. I called Choate, they said the stock that I bought 4 years ago would not fit the new accutrigger savage. But, the lady on the phone (and I then spoke to Fred Choate) said, just send it to us and we will cut out stock to fit the new savage. I asked her how much and how long it would take. She replied it is no charge and a couple of days. I sent the stock on Monday, I got it back on Wednesday!! AND they sent me new screws and replaced one that I had broken on the bipod mount-at no charge. Not even for the shipping back to me.
In my 37 years I have only had this kind of service once-from Leupold. Who makes a product to fit a certain model, then 4 years later when a new model comes out will modify the old stock at no charge!!!? Outstanding! I look forward to doing all the business I can with these fine folks. Sorry for the long post, but I like to catch people doing things right-they are people that deserve our business as consumers. Thanks
