I have a Remington SPS Tactical in 308. Only thing I changed so far was to put in a 2 stage Timney trigger. With my best hand loads shooting off the lands the rifle is a 1/2 MOA or better gun at 100 yards. I once briefly tried a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock which actually made my groups worse...more like .75"-1" at 100 yards, so that went back to MidwayUSA.
So while I actually considered a Accuracy International 1.5 stock at around $850 (guys who had it told me it didn't necessarily make their groups tighter but it gave them more consistency) I still poked around the boards and saw the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock for less than $200 which actually had pretty good reviews. Long story short, put my action into the Choate yesterday and went to the range today. After about 10 or so warm up shots I managed my best 3 shot group ever, something like 1/3" at 100 yards. Using a Harris bipod in front and a (crappy) sandbag in back. Now I am not saying thats because of the Choate, but the Choate definitely did not make my groups worse. And that sucker is pretty massive and rather heavy, giving the 700 an very sturdy platform. It's a pretty good feeling when your gun outshoots rifles costing several times as much. The Choate is recommended unless you can easily afford an AI. But the AI requires some fitting when your 700 has a Timney trigger. The Choate needed no fitting at all.
PS Perceived recoil is much better with this stock.
