I love my P365 but have been wanting something a little bigger, optics-ready, and with a safety. Naturally, the P365X Romeo would be ideal, but since I have been focusing on researching compact .40 S&W pistols the last couple of years, I am not caught up on the latest compact 9mms.

Looking for suggestions for a compact 9mm that is smaller than a G19, bigger than a P365, has a safety, is optics ready, and has a reputation as being accurate and having a great trigger.

Guns that I recall as being impressive are the VP9, the PDP, CZ P10 Compact, etc.

Not sure if a pistol exists that has both a safety and is optics ready.

I know the new Shield Plus comes close, but not sure if it has a safety option or not.

Check out the new striker fired Kimber.. it pushes all those buttons. There's a thread in this forum on it.

First of all, what kind of optic are you thinking of? Many of the compacts are cut for micro dots, not RMRs etc. About the only gun I can think of that fits all of your desires is the 365 XL.

For something slightly bigger, the Canik TP9 Elite SC is between a Glock 19 and 26 in size, but no safety. Same with the VP9 SK which isn't offered with optic cut (yet). They're both wonderful pistols for a great price, I picked up a used Canik and it's as good of a shooter as my PDP 5" barrel. Just have to get used to not having a safety and there's a lot more to consider.

I figured finding a compact 9mm with a thumb safety and optics ready would be easy.

S&W Shield Plus only comes optics ready in the Performance Center version, which doesn't have a thumb safety and does have ports. No-go.

Looks like the Sig P365X/XL is the only option.

Be pricey and have a hefty lead up time but I believe Wilson offers their SFX9 optics ready as an option.
