I've been looking on here and other sites for help deciding which rifle to buy in .308
I've narrowed down to a Weatherby VG1 for $379, Mossberg 100ATR with scope for $299, or Marlin XS7 for $329.
Any opinions/advice would be great. Thanks

If I were looking for a rifle in that price range, I wouldn't even need to think about it. Marlin XS7. The Weatherby wouldn't be a bad choice though. The Marlins just have so much going for them right now.

Savage...even if you have to buy used to get to the price you want or have to spend a bit more than planned it will be worth it in the long run.

I just got a 100ATR in .30-06 and it shoots great. You can't go wrong with it. I looked at the $299 w/scope package and wanted a better scope so I spent $299 on the rifle with a Mossy Oak Camo stock and spent an additional $99 on a Bushnell Banner scope and was shooting 2 to 3 inch groups at 200 yards. I haven't shot a high powered rifle in about 2 years, so groups like that would be sub MOA with practice.

Just my 2¢

I could be wrong, but any scope that comes on a rifle that costs $300, is gonna suck sooner or later. Nobody can make a profit by selling a gun and scope of any quality for 300 bucks. A decent scope alone for a gun that size will run 200 to 300 bucks.
