I was shooting some trap a couple of weeks ago with another guy who also has a Red Label. After a 16 yd round we were discussing choke sizes. I always use my full choke tube when shooting trap but usually cant hit squat beyond the 22 yd. line using my Ruger. I switch to my trusty old Model 12 at longer yardages. He mentioned to me that his full choke was not as tight as my Winchester. I had never thought of this before. Ruger uses Briley chokes and I just figured that full was full. It's not. Using a dime as a measure, he checked my guns. The dime slipped into my full choke tube as well as his but not into my M12. Whats up. I know that some companies build their chokes differently but I would think that Briley would be as close to spec as any out there. By the way these chokes pattern beautifully. Also can anyone give me the measurements for each choke. Full, Modified, Improved cyl. and Skeet. 12 ga. of course.

Choke size is relative to bore size. Win. and Ruger have a different bore sizes so they have different choke sizes.

Skeet is usually bore size minus .005, IC is -.010, LM is -.015, Mod is -.020, IMod is -.025 and so on.

What a bbl or choke is marked doesn't mean it will throw that "marking". Pattern board is the true test.

On those rare times I've shot trap , I have use a Trap bbl that actually did throw a full pattern. I break just as many with a Mod. I like a Imp Mod If given a choice.

both previous posters are right on the money.

Keep in mind your Ruger is backbored, the dime test is worth what it cost, a dime.........

ysr nailed the nominals, but they are nominal.

sm, our good friend Steve, nailed the fact that what you see ISN"T what you get unless you pay a significant amount of money.

I forgot to add my best ever day on the trap field was a 98/100 with 2 100's. This was shot from the 24 yard line with #9 shot at 1100 FPS or less, total powderpuff loads.

I didn't realize thatt the choke depended on the bore size. I guess that with the Ruger being backbored and my Winny being made in 1937 there would definately be a difference. Thanks guys:)
