Hello everyone. I just need some advice on which 1911 to buy. I am trying to decide between a Colt Mark IV Series 80, a Dan Wesson SS Pointman Major, or a Kimber Custom Classic? I only want to spend about $600. Are there any other guns you might suggest. Thanks for the input

I personally like the Kimber , Have one and love it
Colt is always a good choice!!!! If you can pick up a colt that is in really nice condition I would go that way for 600 or under price range

I'd buy the Colt. I have a few and they work just fine. And to me, it's still the Real Deal. ;)

If you get a Kimber that works, they're a shooter! Hmm... I know older Colts also had QC problems too. If you had a choice of a NRM Government, I'd tell you to get that. BUT.... if you find yourself a Classic Kimber (Series I), I'd go for that over the NRM Colt.

Confused yet? :D

Series I Kimber > NRM Colt > ORM Colt > Kimber Series II

This year's purchases:

This calendar year I bought:

3 Colt 1911s
5 Kimber 1911s

Four (4) of the 5 Kimbers had to returned to the Custom Shop for EXTENSIVE work! Two of them had to be returned twice. One of them still was defective and I sold (honestly, with full disclossure of defect) at a $600.00 loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three (3) of the Kimbers were "Custom Shop". I will purchase only ONE kind of Kimber--Warrior...PERIOD! There, however, you are talking $1,200.00! Even my Kimber, Custom Shop, Gold Combat $1,900.00 plus taxes had to be returned to Kimber 2 times before it was right.

So, the short of it? For your price range, get a Colt model 1991...yes, you saw that correctly...1991.

My Colts will shoot every bit as accurate as my Kimbers ever did. As with ANY gun, I have learned, strip it before you buy it. If you have not 100% happy, do not buy it.

Choice between Kimber and Colt? Simple..bye bye Kimber! Hello Colt!

You won't be disappointed with a new roll marked Colt. Yeah I know the slides are fitted a little looser, but you know what, I outshot three different Kimbers with their tight fit. Also the Colt is made with better quality parts.

Smith & Wesson makes almost all their own parts. And they have an external extractor.

the above posts are why after 35 years i abandoned 1911's for SIGs...

too much crap QC and too many reliability issues for me anymore ...
the 1911s stay in the safe , sigs and cz's get used...  :fire: :cuss:

I have no experience with current Kimbers -- mine is almost ten years old, and is indeed a shooter.
+1.

I dont know how old mine are though. Old enough IMO, they're all series I.
