The more of the hole you can see, obviously the more gas it's venting into the air and the less that's driving the piston, yup.

Maybe I should consider weak gas piston and recoil springs.

sounds like yer barking up the right tree with swapping out the old springs for new ones. would suggest some of the new chrome silicon flavors available now.

what bullet weight has been used when these problems occured, WAY over 150gr?

sorry about the misunderstanding as to gas reg adjustment.

be sure to get the spring retainer "screwdriver" for removing recoil springs (smaller ID within larger). they can be very hazardous to eyes, wear saftey glasses, just in case.
