Choosing between the Glock 19 and 26

Need opinions...

The gun will be carried stronside in a kydex type paddle holster, then a jacket of some type will be worn to cover it.

Deep concealment, such as pocket, or even IWB will not be used.

There isnt much weight difference between the two.

Does the difference in size matter that much for the type of carry I have described. Does smaller size of teh G26 make it more difficult to shoot?

I assume recoil wont be bad with either (9mm), is that a fair assumption?

If I go with a G19, I doubt I would get hi-caps, but might I guess

I would go with the G-19 since deep concealment is not a concern,and if you find High caps more round capacity ,but you can use high caps in the G-26 also but they stick out .The g-26 is quite managable. You might want to go to a range that rents guns and try them both to see whats more comfortable to you.

Go with the 19.

I carried a 19 just as you described for several years. When the 26 became available I immediately bought one (I was in my Glockalholic phase then) after one range trip I found that the 26 did not handle as well as the 19 (my overall favorite Glock) and was no better for IWB concealment then the 19. The 26 stayed in my safe unused for years and was recently sold.

Have both and for the purposes you describe recommend the G19 for its mag capacity(if you want to make the investment) and handling. Suprisingly, the G26 is as accurate in my experience.

I'd go w/ the 19 in this case. The grip is more user friendly and still compact enough for daily carry.

I (personal opinion emminent) have always found the Glock 26/27 too big and too small for my needs. It's too big for deep concealment, and too small to be a primary belt-carried CCW.

I Like my G-26 holds the same number of rounds as the G-19 with the same mags, if you want better concealment use the 10 rounders(I do) and carry in a pocket holster. It does take big pockets.

a Shorter Butt tends to print less.

You may want to see how they fit your hands, and if the pinkie hanging off bothers you.

If you add an extension on the G26 the length becomes ~ to the G19.

Some people shoot the G26 better than G19 or G17- dual springs may make the G26 felt recoil less.

The G26 was too small for my hand.

Also, the un-neutered mags will fit in the G26 as well.

i also recommend the 19 over the 26 for wear OWB. the reduction is size, of the 26, gains you nothing on the belt.

my 19, in a fobus paddle holster, is the gun i go to when my beretta 92/96 is too big for the occassion

I love my 19, especially with full-cap mags. But my buddy has a 26, and with the finger extensions it feels really good and shoots really well.

I'd say if you're gonna go with neutered Klintonista mags, it's a toss-up leaning to the 26. With full caps, it's the 19 all the way.

I chose to get the G26 as I reasoned that a 26 can do everything a 19 can, but not the other way around.
I usually shoot mine with a G19 mag, which gives a little bigger grip.
You have the accessory rail on the 19 if that is something you need.

BTW: The G26 looks a bit odd with a 34 round mag in it.

Have a G19 on y hip right now, in a Fobus paddle holster. If this isn't for deep concealment and will be worn on the belt or even IWB, the G19 is a good choice.

I have a G26 and a G23, so all I can make is the size comparison between the 26 and 19 and comment a little on the performance of the 26.

Size wise, the 26 is a little shorter than the 19/23, but not by much. It does not make a significant difference in concealment. Height wise (bottom of mag to top of slide) it is a little shorter, which does help with concealed carry, unless you add the mag extension which makes it about the same as the 19/23.

With the 9mm cartridge, it handles well with the "shorty" grip, even with a three finger hold (w/o extension). Recoil is mild and well handled. Accuracy is terrific. In addition to defensive shooting, I also use it for steel plates at 25 yards (not feet). It does a great job, even without the extensions.

To sum it up, for ccw, the 26 makes a marginal improvement over the 19/23. For accuracy and shooting fun, there probably is little difference with the bulk of the variance shooter induced. If you have big hands, you may be better off with the 19, otherwise, it's a toss up, IMO.

Got both. Like the G26. Love the G19. The 19 has been my #1
choice for on duty and off duty use for the last 5 years. Even
without the hi-caps the g19 is an efficient size. Shoots and
handles like a full size pistol but is small and light enough to
conceal. The 26 has advantages for pocket carry if large pockets
and loose pants are your thing - a little too heavy, though. If you
intend to travel with a pistol, though, the 26 fits in the new
smaller glove boxes better. The g19 works better (IMO) than the
26 for IWB carry as the longer barrel stabilizes the pistol better.
The 26 is a good choice. The 19 is a great one!

I like the G19. If I go smaller in a 9mm it only makes sense to downsize to the Kahr MK9 or PM9. The G26 just does not afford that much reduction in size, although it does handle 10 rounds.
