So, there I am at Toys R Us with the wife trying to beat the mad after-Thanksgiving shopping rush. We buy some dolls for our daughter, some rattles for the baby and I head to the boys section to pickup a nice cap gun or two for our three year old son.

Can't find any.

"Excuse me, nice clerk lady, where are the cap guns".

She replies bluntly, "we don't carry those, but we have Nerf guns".

The Nerf guns are futuristic behemoths. Look like fun, but wheres the cap "bang" and the great cap smell.

I guess its not at Toys R Us. Sigh.

Just missing the good old days and thought I'd share.

Ya, the days of my all black Uzi squirt gun that was close to actual size and not deformed are over.

Go to Sportsmans Warehouse if you have one. They have good looking cap guns if I recall. I think they have the full moon kind and the rolls.

I seem to recall I had one of those also, that thing was my favorite.

p.s. this thread is going to get closed so fast. :D (as well it probably should)

TRU and guns...

I used to work for Toys 'R' Us (albeit several years ago). At that time, it was company policy (for political reasons) not to carry "realistic" style toy guns, even including the "gun" that went with the ultra-popular Nintendo Duck Hunt video game.

I used to work in the "ticket" department (bikes, video games, anything you have to pull a ticket and take the ticket to the cashier). It was always fun trying to explain to a customer why we sold video games that used the Ninetndo gun, but not the gun to go with them.

I say go airsoft. No cool explosion or gun powder smell, but it actually shoots something. You can have nerf wars on steroids!

No way, no airsofts for a 3 year old. Those things are dangerous for little kids. I have a cheap airsoft pistol, spring powered, and I guarantee it will blind you if you mis-use it.

And this is coming from a person who wouldn't mind people owning rocket launchers.:)

What he said. Especially concerning the rocket launchers.

The Post Office/Newsagents just down from me sells revolver capguns, with an orange "silencer".

Try looking round some of the places that aren't big stores, you might be peasnatly surprised.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would be completely satisfied with one of these if I were a kid. ...Probably would have wet myself before I could get the box open.

I would have loved this too...

This also would make you the greatest father of all time.

Good luck on your search. there are still lever action rifles to be found, you just have to search how a little because some look like a Red Rider BB gun, and some look like a waste of $20 once the lever snaps off the first time you use it.

The M60 has it's front sight upside down.:)

The Police set is sick! I like what appears to be a silenced HK33 on top.

That RPK is funny. Why does it have a scope that looks like a rocket? LOL:D Oh and, if you change the stock to pistol grip configuration, do you still have to abide by 922r?:neener:

I think Outlaws has a find here:

I grew up in the 50's and 60's the heyday of television cowboys. Hublet was THE brand of cap gun in those days. This looks like a really nice set, and the leather in the holster set is probably better than what some of the low-end holster makers are selling to SASS aficionados.

Grab it, would be my advice.

you are lucky you didnt get a an emergency page for the guy looking to buy his kid a gun :neener:

Seriously though, you can find them they just aren't everywhere liek they used to be.

we have little cap gun revolvers at walgreens

Oddly enough we dont sell packs of caps though so its like *** is the kid supposed to do when the 50 caps it comes with runs out

I think there used to be a Rambo one. I've got one of the old kid's Rambo cartoon books.

A friend of mine had a water gun that looked like an M79. The shells were filled with water, then loaded like the real thing. The gun compressed the plastic shells, squirting water where you pointed.

I wonder why no one makes a toy RPG-7?

They used to....kinda.....

This is "like" what I had on my bike as a kid. Mine was a battery operated RPG though that would make all the missle sounds and explosions. It had a red projectile (didn't shoot) that would light up and flash while making the sounds.
Yes, it was a geniune Rambo product. I even got the bandana and knife and grenade stuff to strap on to myself.

Toys R Us, KBee toys and most of your bigger toy outlets have stopped selling them due to PC reasons.

Was told at KB toys that guns are bad so therefore they didn't think that kids should have them. I guess that is their opinion, def. not mine.

I found two on ebay (I know, I know but I don't know of any other site that may have them) that were just like the ones I had as a kid, a engraved ALL METAL 1911 with pearl grips (I guess I liked Bling before it was Bling :D ) and a six shooter ALL METAL cowboy type gun.

My adopted "son" (not really my son but I view him as such) loved them, well worth the cost (yes, they were abet expensive but worth it).

Now, he just turned 8 so I am on the lookout for his first real gun, most likely will be a marlin single shot .22 like I had as a kid.

Toys R Us used to sell what were essentially replica guns that took the plastic bubble style caps in single line strips. They had various pistols and an Uzi, with the most expensive one an M-16A1 look-a-like. I remember they were well made plastic with weights to give them a realistic feel.

I wanted one in the worst way when I was a kid.
