Chromed BRNO Mauser?

You sure its not nickle plated rather than chrome. I personally wouldn't want it just because of the plating but I have heard the BRNO's are nice guns.

Depends on the chroming. If its hard chrome it would be matte and much more abrasion and weather resistant than stainless.
If its shiny probably nickel, tho it could be chromed.

Brno's are some of the better Mauser 98's out there. One thing to remember though if it is nickel plated. Some copper solvents will cause the nickel plating to flake off.

I wouldn't touch a nickle plated gun with a 10 foot stick. I think they look horrid and most of the nickle plated guns I've ever seen have the nickle pealing, bubbling, or chipped off of them somewhere. No thanks.

Thats been My experience also. You can usually get them cheap tho and if your willing to take the time to refinish they can be well worth it.

I haven't seen the gun yet, I'm sure it could be nickled. The guy says it has nice sported wood and looks to be chromed. I've never seen a nickled or chromed rifle figured someone here might have.

nickle and chrome plated parts, but a whole gun is mildly unusual, requires too long a tank tho industrial shops would do it. It could also be polished stainless barrel on a nickle or chromed action.

Steel cannot be chrome plated. But copper can be chrome plated, and copper bonds to steel. I suspect that copper solvents get thru the chrome and attack the copper underneath

I found one other listed on armslist from a while ago (google image search), so someone else atleast did the same thing......If its cheap enough id still probably buy it, you can always paint over the nickle, easy, or strip it, which would be alot of work.

Could the metal just have been left in the white? Since it is a BRNO it was either left in the white(like some bolts) or was chromed/nickel plated aftermarket I believe. BRNO's are very good quality firearms.

cdb1, this was not left in the white--even with excessive polishing, they do not look that way (try looking at images of GEW 98's which were left in the "white" during WWI). I do believe that rifle has been hard chromed because of the bolt--nickel plating would not last that long on the bolt. I have seen a few U.S. Military Springfield and Krag parade rifles that have been done that way.

Dustin, if it has a bluish tinge then it is most definitely chromed which would be a pain to remove and replace.

However, Mauser 98's are easy to rebarrel and not that costly either which gets rid of a lot of the plating with little problem.
