I may be late to the game….Chuck provided a lot of insight in the community…

“For the past two and one half years Chuck has been battling stage four Pancreatic cancer. Early in the morning of August 23, 2021 he'd had enough and "slipped the surly bond of earth to touch the face of God." Chuck Hawks was an avid recreational shooter for over 50 years. In addition, he was a noted researcher, writer and professional photographer. Many of his photos are still being sold as picture post cards!”

I came across his articles from time to time and watched some of his videos. I enjoyed them, takes me back to the earlier days of my shooting interests when I would become interested in a gun and whipped out the ol blackberry and read a chuckhawks review. (Waiting 2-6 minutes for the page and text to load, lol)

I got the impression from people in the online shooting community that his information wasn't reliable or he was to be taken with a grain of salt but I guess all that I read from him was informative and entertaining. Might not agree with some of the stuff he said like using #6 birdshot in your HD shotgun, small nitpicks like that aside though he was kind of an OG from the early days of online gun reviews, etc... he was there at the beginning and was clearly passionate about firearms and 2A.

RIP chuck....

Yes, I remember finding his site back in the early days and his writing opened my eyes to how much I didn't know about firearms. Started me on the path that led to where I am today, i.e. still so much I don't know BUT a lot less ignorant than I used to be! RIP

Edit: Just went to his site (still in 1999 format!) and found a bunch of motorcycle related articles! Looks like I'll be doing some reading!

Sad to hear. He was a great contributor to the firearms and hunting communities. His website was one of the earlier ones in the internet era as well. I started reading them when I was quite young and the articles made a great impression on me.

Of particular note were his take on scopes. He was a believer in using as low of a power as you can get away with and making sure the exit pupil was big enough at max power. He was also a major proponent of proper sectional density of bullets for the game you were hunting. Even though I have a more open mind on that stuff now, it nonetheless stuck with me.

Later on I didn’t agree with many of his writings but I agreed with most of them in the end. I think that probably means he was doing it correctly.

I read a lot of those articles. I swear I see a little bit of Chuck Hawks in a lot of folks’ opinions written here.

RIP Chick Hawks.

… yeppers, his take on glass has influenced me a lot.

Separately, his articles on the 257 Roberts and 257 AI sold me on the caliber. First, for my wife. Second for me.

As for everyone’s take - “did not agree with all of what he wrote”…right there with you! Shoot, there are times I do not agree with “me”

I'm saddened to hear of his passing. I've read many of his articles and learned a great deal that I hadn't known before. He will be truly missed. Luckily, with the internet, nothing is really ever gone. RIP Chuck Hawks.

That is sad. I enjoyed reading his articles and agreed with a lot of it.
Quite a few of the folks I enjoyed reading from have passed on. The saddest part is they aren't being replaced was readily as in the past. Good authors are becoming hard to find.
