I just tried out my new Platinum Cup 22 conversion. At first the slide barely fit onto the 1911 lower. I cycled it by hand and shot 200 rounds through it. Now sometimes the slide will return to battery 2 out of 10 rounds. Is this normal? Should I sand out the slide serations or should I just let it machine itself a bit more?

I really like it. Its accurate, extracts perfectly and looks good. BTW im using it on a STI Spartan lower.

A little lapping compound will speed things up...I'm not sure what the best grit would be but it shouldn't take much to lap the slide to the frame.

I'd say about 500 until the slide was consistant. Then it ran fine with federal bulk ammo from Wal Mart. I recently traded the frame and slide for a Custom 1911 that I gave to a friend for his B-day. The Ciener had over 10,000 rounds through it in about 6 months.

Make sure you are using high velocity .22 LR. In fact, if you want to "break" it in a little faster, use Stingers. If the gun won't cycle with Stingers, then it might be something to look into. .22 conversions and many .22 semi autos are ammo sensitive. You'll have to find the ammo the gun likes and then stick to it.

The Federal Premium that comes in boxes of 325 at Wally World works well in all my .22's and my Platinum Conversion (Kimber before they were making their own.)

I had the same problem at first with mine. In fact, it wouldn't go all the way onto the frame without binding fairly hard at a couple of points.

I used a very light coating of #800 lapping compound on the slide's rails. I then hand-cycled the unit just until it would fully return to battery under the power of the recoil spring.

I cleaned all traces of the compound from both the slide and frame, oiled the rails lightly and put about 200 rds through it.

Worked nicely and well worth the effort.

Good advise. Im going to run 100 stingers and 200 CCI's today. Hopefully that should do it, I would be around 500 rounds. It shoots way better than my Walther P22 I dumped.

Keep in mind that lapping the .22 slide to the .45 frame will also loosen the .45 slide/frame fit when you put it back on.

I wouldn't do it that way if it was me!

For a very tight .22 slide, I would color the slide with a black Magic-Marker and work it enough to see the tight spots, then remove them with a fine cut file.

Keep doing it until you are almost their, then switch to fine black emery paper until all the tight and/or rough spots are gone.

That way, you haven't changed a thing on the frame, and the .45 slide will fit exactly like it always did.

Well, my Ciener kit is working great now. It took 300 CCI rounds and a couple of cleanings. Its way more reliable now than other .22 guns I have had. Thanks for the advice.
