Anyone ever used one of the Ciener 22 LR conversions for a 1911 Pattern pistol? How is the accuracy and reliability?

I've had one for some time.
I use it on a GI 1911A1, RIA and Kimbers for plinking.
It's very reliable, depending on the ammo.
The accuracy isn't great. Maybe about 2.5 to 3 inches at 15 yards.

I have a couple of them in different sizes. Mine work great with high speed ammo. I can get 2 inch groups with my Govt. size depending on ammo. The Officer / Commander conversion on an alloy frame makes a great lightweight field pistol. They do not activate the slide stop on the last round by design but that is about the only operational difference. Change over takes less than 2 minutes.

I've used mine on several 1911 frames. Reliability is mostly a factor of ammo, IMO, with the recommended high-speed plated stuff working 100% on all but one.

Accuracy seems to vary a good deal. How well the conversion fits a particular frame seems to be a large determinant. With ammo from the same lot, I get between 1.5" with the Springfield frame I originally fitted it to and 4"+ on an older Colt Series 70 at 25 yds. In fairness, the fit was too tight for function OTB on the Springfield, and the unit was lapped-in with 800-grit compound from Brownell's. The looser it fits, the larger the groups.

FWIW, the extra money for the adjustable sight version is a good idea. It'll be able to compensate for a lot of ammo/fit variables, especially if you're going to use it on a couple of different frames.

As has been mentioned, the slide stop will not function with the conversion. I believe that this is common to most conversions where the slide is aluminum alloy. There isn't enough 'oomph' to the spring in the .22 magazine and, even if there was, the steel slide stop would wallow out the notch in the slide in fairly short order. Not a biggie, IMO.

You need to replace the recoil spring once in a while, after the first 20k rounds mine was visibly shorter...

Good luck finding spare plastic buffer disks, and Ciener is not known for customer service of any sort...

Good conversion kit, though.

I use faucet washers from Home Depot. :)

Thank you M2 Carbine! :D

I don't know how many times I must have passed by those and never thought about putting one into my kit.

Re: Ceiner custmer service

My Commander .22 conversion was throwing the empties straight up and landing on my head. Tried three different frames, same results. John Ceiners' advice: Wear a hat.
After much experimenting on my own, problem fixed.
