Cimarron 1911.

Cimarron has no manufacturing capability.

They are an importer, with enough clout to get the Italian gun makers to do a little extra on some of their guns.

Whoever is really making the 1911 for them probably makes the same gun for other companies too. Probably made by Armscor in the Philippines.

I've heard that Cimarron does some smithing and finishing here in the US, thus the special finish options, and things like "colt style" solid hammers (no import safeties), etc.

I have been a black powder and SAA shooter for over 30 years. With black powder I started out with a Uberti and when I could afford it, I upgraded to the 2nd Generation and Signature Series Colts. My Uberti was/is a great all around entry level gun. Good shooter. My son has it now. Cimarron gets their cowboy guns from Uberti and they are supposed to be the top of the Uberti line.

I have two Cimarron cartridge revolvers that are very good guns ~ however, it was a painful and expensive road to get there.

My first Cimarron was a Lightning 38. Right out of the box, it needed a replacement firing pin. It was not long enough to give a good strike on the primers. They offered to fix it, but considering the postage and turn around time, I had a local gunsmith fabricate one and was back in business in two days. This gun has never given any further problems and is a good shooter.

Next, I bought a Cimarron Bisley. The cylinder on this gun had been so aggressively buffed in the final finish at the factory that it would not even lock up. Cylinder was replaced. Next springs began to fail. I eventually wound up having to replace all the springs. Up next, was the safety hammer assembly. It gave problems until I replaced it with a new one "old style," from VTI. It took a complete rebuild to get the bugs out of this gun. Considering the cost, postage, and time involved, I would have been money ahead to have bought a USFA and had a top quality gun to begin with.

I'm not saying I would not buy another Cimarron depending on what they have to offer. You can always tweak out the glitches. I do not feel their quality warrants a premium price.

I have a Cimarron Model P .45 convertible that I bought a couple years ago. It is top notch- beautiful finish, tight lock-up, decent trigger. No idea about the 1911s though.

In that price range, I'd go with a RIA Tactical and never look back. Their customer service can't be beat, and that's an important consideration in my book. I have three RIA 1911's and have never had a lick of trouble from them. But the Tactical model has all the cool stuff on it, the GI model is pretty much GI except for the grips and the lowered/flared ejection port. It bites my hand just like my Colts do.

I looked at one of these last night at Cabelas. It caught my eye because of the gorgeous polished blue finish.
Nicest gloss blue in the entire store. Wish I could buy a Colt with that finish.

But, at $799.99 I felt it was too much to pay for what is basically a Phillipine gun.
