Cimarron Firearms 7th CAV

Another ASM U.S. Cavalry SAA owner here though I have had mine for quite some time now. Was leaving a gun show and on the way out, I happened to see at a table one U.S. Cavalry model (no box or owner's manual), and two Artillery models (one in the box and one no box and missing some parts). All three were used but in decent shape. Since I was a kid I always wanted a Colt SAA with the 7 1/2" barrel. So that ruled out the two Artillery models. And at the time I really didn't see myself having the money to ever buy the real thing; as such I made the owner a fair offer and he accepted and I went happily home with my SAA replica, courtesy of ASM!

Here's mine although it was made by Uberti and imported by Taylors & Co. It also has the facsimile Orville W Ainsworth cartouche but no unit markings. Since I also have a repro Schofield, I lucked into one of the M1881 dual-purpose holsters on eBay. Someone listed this holster but they had no idea what it was for. Consequently, I was the only bidder at $20.

I've been tempted a few times to buy something 1873. I'm partial to Colt's but I have a 1K limit when buying anything that burns powder. OK, I've paid a few bucks more but that was tax, shipping and transfer fees. The for sale price has to be <1K.

I've looked at Colt 3rd generation but most are above my budget, so no joy there. A 1st gen, or even 2nd gen is way beyond my reach.

I'm going to check this one out. I'm a fan of the 1873 with the 7'' barrel.

I didn't see any on the MidwayUSA site so maybe they're gone. None on the Cimarron site either.

Cimarron Firearms General Custer Revolver 45 Colt (Long Colt) 7.5 (midwayusa.com)

It comes in under your budget.

If clicks on the word "revolvers" in the Midway address for the General Custer model on jobu07 linked and then click on Cimarron for the brand on the general page, they have what appears to be an identical model next to the Custer called the Cattleman 7th cavalry model. It appears to have the same description as the Custer model and looks like the same picture but it's $650 instead of $700. I'm assuming the Custer has some special markings that are different from the plain 7th cav model.

Try this link instead to see the two side by side

They also have free shipping this month

The difference between the two is not readily apparent. The only difference between the two descriptions is the Custer model is like holding history in your hands...

I suspect the Cattleman is probably just lacking the unit marking on the butt? Otherwise it would be $50 accidental markdown on Midway's part?
