by Jim Kouri - Superstar anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is threatening oust Sen. Dianne Feinstein from her senate seat if the Democrat from California doesn't join the senators planning to filibuster Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito.
Sheehan, who's in Venezuela hobnobbing with like-minded socialists such as President Hugo Chavez, was attending the World Social Forum when she heard that several Democrats planned to filibuster Alito but that Feinstein, who is up for re-election in November, announced that she will vote against Alito but would not filibuster the nomination.
Sheehan released a statement in which she warned Sen. Feinstein that if she did not filibuster Alito, Sheehan would run against Feinstein in the upcoming senate election.
Many Washington observers wondered what had caused Feinstein to change her mind on the filibuster, but now the conventional wisdom is that Feinstein does not wish to lose her base -- the ultra-left in California.
Sheehan is expected to arrive in Washington on Monday for preparations to counter President George W. Bush's State of the Union speech scheduled for Tuesday night.
Sheehan became the face of the anti-war movement as a result of her son Casey being killed in Iraq. She's credited with starting a media frenzy during a Summer vigil outside President Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch. She demanded to speak with the president about the death of her son.
Sheehan fell from grace with the Democrat Party establishment when she began making anti-semitic statements and began a verbal feud with Senator Hillary Clinton over her support for the Iraq War. While enjoying much sympathy at first, her popularity began to shrink when she associated with radical fringe groups such as Code Pink.
