Al Sharpton speaks at anti-war camp near Bush ranch
CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) — The Rev. Al Sharpton joined hundreds of war protesters camping near President Bush's ranch for an interfaith service Sunday, saying he felt compelled to meet Cindy Sheehan, the grieving mother who started the rally three weeks earlier.

Sheehan arrived in Bush's hometown Aug. 6 and refused to leave until she could question the president about the war that has killed more than 1,870 U.S. service members, including her son Casey. (Related story: Bush on road after weekend of dueling demonstrations)

"I feel that it is our moral obligation to stand and to be courageous with these families, and particularly Cindy, that have become the conscience of this nation," said Sharpton, an activist and former Democratic presidential candidate.

Sharpton and Sheehan laid roses at crosses near "Camp Casey," named for Sheehan's 24-year-old son who was killed in Iraq last year.

Actor Martin Sheen, who portrays the Democratic president on NBC's The West Wing, also met with Sheehan on Sunday.

Several cars with pro-Bush signs drove slowly down the road by the protest campsite. One man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly shoving an anti-war demonstrator, McLennan County sheriff's deputies said.

After the war protest ends Wednesday, the anti-war group plans to spread its message on a bus tour, with the first stop probably in the southeast Texas district of U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Bush has said he appreciates Sheehan's right to protest and sympathizes with her, but his aides have said there are no plans to change his schedule to meet with her.

Sheehan and other grieving families met with Bush about two months after her son died last year, before she became a vocal opponent of the war.

I have always felt that one of the most dangerous places to be in the United States is the area between Al Sharpton and the nearest television camera.

That's a man who has created a tremendous amount of racial tension in NY and the rest of the country. He's not there for anything good !!!

When I hear the name Al Sharpton, the word Reverend is not the word I think of. I might think of grandiloquent popinjay, venal pettifogger, nefarious miscreant, flagitious recidivist, sententious blatherskite, mawkish ditherer, arrant peculator, irascible misanthrope, hubristic narcissist, feckless sycophant, vituperative virago, vapid yahoo, eructative panjandrum, saturnine misanthrope, antediluvian troglodyte, maudlin poetaster, splenetic termagant, pernicious quidnunc, rancorous anchorite, perfidious mountebank,or irascible curmudgeon, but I dont think of Reverend.

edited to add; vacuous boob :D

The bottom feeders

An indication that the support for Mrs. Sheehan and her leftist supoporters is waning could be the bottom feeders for attention that are showing up at Crawford Texas. Sheehans supporters were out numbered by thousands of supporters of Pres. Bush over the weekend so Rev. Sharpton, and our fake Pres. Martin Sheen show up to get a little publicity for themselves and also try to keep mrs. Sheehan there to keep their political adgenda going.

"At least you've got the acting president of the United States," Sheen told the crowd of more than 300. "I think you know what I do for a living, but this is what I do to stay alive."

Al is slipping in his ability to get the spotlight. Sheehan's 15 minutes are just about up.

4570Rick gets an A+ iun vocabulary and vitrolic (and my compliments).

While I respect the 1st Amendment and have my own opinion about the war and its prosecution and managment, all I can say about the Sheehan/Sharpton linkage is, "ever notice how excrement draws flies?"

Why not use counter-tactics? Say send a few hired rednecks dressed in KKK garb aver ther with signs that say "we support Cindy Sheehan!" Or some "NAMBLA supports Cindy!" Or something really replusive to the lefties: "Gun-Owning Capitalists Support Sheehan!"

Why is this so difficult? Make the show unattractive (or embarrassing to the promoters of the show) and the audience will leave (or it will be shut down).

It would also be funny to announce that the President has been back at the White House for 2 weeks now.

You know what the worst part of all this BS is? I used to drive through Crawford regularly when going from my grandparents' house in Whitney to my dad's house in Harker Heights.

Now I have to take the interstate and miss out on all the nice scenery.

Why not use counter-tactics?
Don't need to really, just make known who is funding this nonsense. Among others, Ms. Sheehan has the financial support of George Sorros (Moveon.org), the socialist workers party, the american communist party and for reasons I can't understand NARAL.

This stopped being about Casey Sheehan a long time ago. The fact is Ms. Sheehan did meet with the president, as many families of our fallen heroes have. Her fifteen minutes were up a long time ago and it is time to move on.

Didn't our good ol' boy Al get busted for drugs?

I can't stand it when he goes on rambling about nothing, wish he would help Cindy pack up her crap and move the hell out of the USA.

And he ran for president

I used to curse these kind of people, but the older I get, the funnier they get. I might just die laughing at some one of the idiots among us.

I wonder if they could be sued for causing me to die laughing??

Not good enough. You have to mess with the visual (and audio) show itself.

As if it's not enough of a circus there now......"Step right up folks...here he is the talking jack-ass"
Tawana Brawly anyone???? :uhoh:

All Al needs is a pink polyster suit topped off with a white fedora with a matching pink hatband...... ala "Super Fly"
Sharpton is nothing more than a pimp.........

Yanus

How about a bunch of skin heads dressed as Hari Krishnas(sp) complete with drums.... ? Now THAT paints a mental picture........... :neener:

No, he felt compelled to get in front of the nearest camera.

How the heck did one of the largest minorities get Sharpton as a defacto leader, I will never know.

Well, I guess Al was in a heck of a hurry to get out of Texas:

Sharpton's Driver Pulled Over Doing 110 After Sheehan Visit

Monday, August 29, 2005

CRAWFORD, Texas — A driver for the Rev. Al Sharpton (search) led Ellis County Sheriff's deputies on a nine-mile chase at speeds up to 110 mph before state troopers stopped the car, authorities said.

The driver was rushing Sharpton to the airport after his visit anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (search) on Sunday at her camp outside President Bush's ranch in Crawford.

The car carrying Sharpton and two other passengers was clocked doing 110 mph in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 35 in Ellis County in North Texas, said Lt. Danny Williams.

The car ignored deputies' attempts to stop it and continued speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before it was stopped, Williams said.

Calls Monday to Sharpton's spokeswoman were not immediately returned. A spokesman for his attorney, Michael Hardy, referred inquiries to the spokeswoman.

Deputies arrested Jarrett Barton Maupin (search), 43, of Phoenix. Maupin told the officers he was hurrying to get Sharpton to the airport. Deputies impounded the rented 2005 Lincoln.

Williams said his officers offered Sharpton and the other, unidentified passengers a ride to a hotel across the highway, but they declined and walked there instead.

Maupin posted a total of $1,000 in bonds on charges of evading arrest with a vehicle and reckless driving.

I like Al, he's funny.
I take him as seriously as I do Pat Robertson and Jessie Jackson and Michael Jackson and Michael Moore and Demi Moore, etc....

They are pretty good for a laugh.
