Class III suppressor for HD?

If you want a suppressor-silencer-muffler for the sake of having one, go for it. Leave it mounted on your HD gun, sure why not? If you seriously think you need it for hearing protection for an HD situation- not even the remotest logical argument. The odds of having hearing damage from shooting an intruder in your home without hearing protection are so infinitesimally small I doubt you could even measure it.

Odds like 100% ?????

rule303 ..... The odds of having hearing damage from shooting an intruder in your home without hearing protection are so infinitesimally small I doubt you could even measure it.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Shoot any 5.56/.223 without ear protection and you have a negative effect on your hearing.....do that inside a home and the damage will be more pronounced.

If you believe adrenaline somehow protects your hearing then provide the research.

Wow...just...wow (what else can you say?)!

As one who went to work in heavy industry over 30 years ago (when no one wore hearing protection), first thing I did when I went to work was do my research on hearing and hearing damage.

After that eye (ear?) opening learning experience, I always wore hearing protection at work - actually got chewed on by some of my bosses for wearing hearing protection (I usually just asked them WHAT...I can't hear you).

Fast forward over 30 years, and the pendulum had swung to the other extreme - they required hearing protection almost everywhere in the plant, including places that were as quiet as my house.

It amazed me over those 30+ years how many co-workers had suffered massive hearing loss / tone deafness.

Of course, they would tell you they didn't need hearing protection as it didn't sound loud to them...:banghead:

I think we should just start calling them "shush sticks" and ignore which technical term is technically correct.

This thread is cracking me up.. Call it a suppressor and it's wrong because it's not in the legal definition. Call it a can, and no one bats an eye. Call it a muffler, and enter a new dimension of shame.

I was going to suggest "expanded hot gas cooling chamber tube", but I like yours better.

I know we're straying a little too far off topic but I'm with Yugo. Between me, my friends and the two Class 3 shops we hang out at we all call them suppressors (or cans once in a while). When someone says silencer we know what they mean. Never once heard anyone call it a muffler.

Just yesterday a person called/posted about a muffler for his Ruger.

All that said, my to-do list has my Mk-II 10" going to a gunsmith to have
the 10" barrel shortened to 6", and threaded. That way I can add
a muffler to it, yet being the balance back to much closer to the 6-7/8"
Government model I have. Be a lot more fun AND not nearly as noisy.

I'm betting you would know what a person was referring to if they called it a "moderator" also.

To believe that it should only be called "silencer" is a small minded.
