Obviously labeling is very powerful. The anti's have used these powerful words against the 2nd Amendment for decades and it has worked well; words such as "assault weapon", "high capacity magazine", and "gun show loophole" all resonate with people and they think it is an appropriate title for each object.

2nd Amendment supporters have attempted to use the word suppressor for silencer as it is a more descriptive and correct term, however, for most people who aren't gun aficionados, suppressors will always be known as "silencers", it's just that way and no one is going to change it. You can thank Hollywood for that. Same as how "high capacity magazine" should really be standard capacity and assault weapon should be semi-automatic.

I just saw this article and they call a suppressor a "Hearing Protection Device". It's actually a pretty good term and the first time I've ever heard a silencer called that. Will it stick, I don't know, but it's a good attempt at placing the suppressor into a category of safety products that most people will understand.

We are all awaiting passage of the HPA (Hearing Protection Act) but most realize it probably won't happen this year. Either way, I've only heard of silencers called silencers and suppressors, never as a hearing protection device, like earmuffs. Maybe they've been called that for awhile.

Shot Across the Bow: Daniel Defense Suppressors Introduced at NRA Annual Meetings

by AWR HAWKINS28 Apr 2017

As the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits opened in Atlanta, Daniel Defense launched a suppressor line, adding hearing protection devices to their already impressive line of AR-15 rifles and components.

This shot across the bow comes as Michael Bloomberg-funded gun control groups, Gabby Giffords’ gun control group, and others unite in hopes of defeating suppressor deregulation contained in the Hearing Protection Act.

In a press release obtained by Breitbart News, Daniel Defense announced the DD Wave, made of a “unique one-piece, 3D-printed Inconel construction [which] eliminates the need for welds [that are] typically the weakest points of a traditional suppressor-providing unmatched strength and durability.”

The DD WAVE is a “no tools quick-attach/detach” suppressor with coupling that “prevents carbon lock and securely mounts the suppressor to your weapon via a durable 17-4PH stainless steel muzzle device.” And the DD WAVE is designed to be easy to remove from the weapon, “even after extended use.”

Welcome to the party. You're a little late. The Hearing Protection Act (HPA) has been pending for more than a year.

From my standpoint, don't expect any action on the HPA.

Neither Trump, nor anyone in Congress needs to support to HPA to get your vote. You will support Trump and the Republicans regardless of whether they act on the HPA, so if you want a silencer, file the paperwork and pay the tax. Don't expect to get free silencers from people who will get your vote anyway simply because they claim to be "conservative" and utter the name "Jesus" several times a day.
