By the way, we need to talk....

I have absolutely no practical use for the large frame S&W revolvers....

You claim we have a problem?? We need to talk you through this buddy. Plastic, bad. Steel good. Rubber bad. Wood good. Come on jimmy. Wheel guns are real guns. :neener:

As long as we are enticing him with N Frames. Nickle 57 No Dash. Saw it and had to have it.

How about a gold box 3 1/2" .357 magnum posing with a Randall 15?

25-5 with a Lum tanto?

3" 65. Those were ragged target grips I cut down to banana grips. That, right there, is one of the finest fighting handguns S&W ever made in my opinion. I carry one pretty regularly and (the only time I've done this) I have a spare in the safe.

Those sure are pretty old smiths.

I think bluing looks it's absolute best when the edges of the frame are just slightly worn, makes it look like highlights on the lines of the gun and it's extremely attractive. The lighting on the penultimate photograph of post 24 is a great example of that look.

sgt127....You are right in everything you said, but I'm a 1911 Junkie. It is by far my favorite weapon. By having no use for the Lg revolver, what I mean is I find them bulky to carry. When I don't carry my 1911, I carry a little model 38 Bodyguard. My all time favorite is a 4in. 25-5 45LC. and a close second is that model 27 in a 3.5in barrel.......HINT HINT Sarge.

Thanks to all for the nice photos. I especially like Sgt. 127's Model 15 Randall knife.

Just for those who don't know, a Model 19 is built on S&W's medium frame. The L-frames are medium large, and N frames are large. I don't know what the .460, etc. are called. X-frames, I think. I truly have no use for those. If I can't handle things with a M-629 .44 Magnum, I think a rifle is in order.

BTW, my overall favorite S&W is probably the M-66 with four-inch barrel. I think it's an outstanding all-round revolver if you don't shoot full .357 ammo a lot. And it can be concealed under a coat. I use a Bianchi Shadow holster for that. Smaller guns are more convenient for concealed carry, but the K-frame Smiths will work, depending on how you have to dress.

Did anyone else notice that the Victoria, Australia cop guns have a sq. butt on the three-inch and round butt on the four-inch? Seems they'd have gone the opposite. Maybe being Down Under warped their perspective.

My K-frame Model 14:

They had round butt and square butt 4" guns, but all of the 3" guns I saw were SB.

Both came from Buds and both flavor of 4" gun are still available.

I am not worthy, but here's my 28-3 from 1976.

It's really in quite nice condition.

I have the provenance letter from S&W and it was originally sold in St Paul. I live in a suburb.

Uh oh. I see another thread in the making. I carried 1911's for years ....

You guys are killin' me - beautiful revolvers.

While I don't consider K frames "large" frames, here are a few N & K frames.

Served in WWI. Loaned to the UK for WWII. "Sold out of stores" about 1955, and returned to the US of A.

It had repro stocks on it when I got it, so I added a touch of Wyoming to it.

I like that 45 whachamacallit.

Also a 45. 1918-vintage 1917. The bottom one, of course, not the 32 HE up top.
