Ive used nothing but Clean Shot powder in my Great Plains rifle, and although I clean it after every range session, it may be after sitting for a few weeks, in my safe. I recently noticed the bore being "rough feeling", about the bottom 10" or so, while cleaning. The top 2/3 of the bore looks great, and seems smooth when running the patch down it, but the bottom is rough. Has anyone else had this experience? I hope I didnt pit the breech of my barrel! How can I tell if my barrel is ruined?

Try getting a penlight that's small enough to fit in the bore. Turn it on, then slide it down the barrel until it rests against the breech plug. Should give enough light to help see.

Edit to add: maybe you know...maybe not, anyway, get about 3 feet of soft plastic tubing that fits tight over the nipple. When you clean, drop the free end in a hot bucket of soapy water and use the cleaning jag with a patch to suck water in and out of the bore.

I have a Knight and a side hammer, and the side hammer cleans in maybe 1/4 of the time it takes for the Knight.

Maybe lead

Maybe you are leading up near the breach and that is the roughness you feel. Just a thought.
